So, are there actually laws that protect teachers (on an E-2) from getting fired near the end of their contract because of problems with a co-teacher (that the boss favours), not work performance. The fact that the kids love me and are learning lots and that I never had any written warnings, etc... shouldn't matter. BUT, does it? I was told I can move schools, but they want me to sign another contract or...? I'm not sure what exactly they were getting at with that, but it sounded like an ultimatum. I am 10 weeks from the end and my bonus. |

They're going to can you if you don't sign a contract for another year? |

Well, that's the thing, they hinted at it, but didn't say it outright. The point is- can they can someone who has a great work performance (despite what the Korean "supervisor says) and no written "warnings", etc of any kind, but they think is "difficult." |

The answer is tell them you are not willing to sign the "new" contract and that you want them to honor your origonal contract. Continue doing your work and finish your contract. If they can you, go to the labor board and file a complaint.
Don't give in to their bs. |

whatever you do don't say you aren't renewing because you are unhappy for ANY reason whatsoever - TRUST ME ON THIS - you must never, ever make anyone at your school think this - it's hard enough to tell them you won't be resigning - you can't imagine how much grief a school can dish out until you tell them you aren't - I know - I've never renewed a contract.
if you are worried, tell them you need more time - my school continued to badger me to renew even after my return air tkt was bought and reimbursed; even when I went to Kimmi to get an extension until my flight - THEY tried to get me to renew (wtf???) so don't cave that they need to know so soon - they don't -
if you want an excuse just say you want to go home for a while - someone's getting married/having a baby/ you're going to grad school whatever....just hang in there - the closer it gets to the end the harder it will be.
good luck. |

Renew with them, collect your severance and final pay and then quit. |

Not only that, but make sure you get your round trip ticket to go home and visit. Then don't come back. |

I can sympathize you with regard to having co-teachers. Some are a pain in the butt. Check your contract and see what it has to stipulate about warnings that should precede dismissals. If the contract is in your favour, then bring it to the attention of the principal. If all else fails, then try to reach a reconciliation with your co-teacher even if it means having to humble yourself and biting the bullet. It's just 10 weeks to go. After that you can reward yourself with a trip to Thailand with your bonus money. |
