Straight from their most recent posting here on Dave's ESL Cafe:
--EPIK Public Schools throughout Korea
S.M.O.E. Public schools throughout Seoul
GEPIK Public schools throughout Gyeonggi
If you want to be fed BS on how great these jobs are...look elsewhere.
This is Korea not the French Riviera! --
WOW. What a way to sell me on S. Korea. Way to go. |

Rowan is a very honest recruiter and works very hard to get the best jobs. I would rather be told the truth than a lie. We should all know what to expect instead of being sold on this idea that Korea is the Hub of anything and everything. |

I'm certainly not questioning Rowan. I just had never thought to compare Korea with the French Riviera.....too funny. |

Oh I didn't mean to accuse you of slander. I was very nieve when I got my first job. I pictured picturesque mountains with a temple covered in mist near a clean beach. Of a land where people are respectfula and welcome you with open arms yata yata yata........
Korea does have all of those things, but you have to work to get to them and be treated like somewhat of an equal here.
Korea is a very cool place to live and if I didn't like it, I wouldn't have signed up for a second year. But due to this financial meltdown which I believe is and will ultimately be a DEEP Depression, I will be moving to Taiwan where I own my visa and can work in more than one place legally. Assuming their currency doesnt go down the gutter too bad either. So far so good.
6 more months to enjoy Kimchi! (and I do LOVE it), but after that it's adios for me.

Honest ads are the best ads if you want people who are going to stay, I imagine. (And that makes fiscal sense--if you keep recommending people who do runners in their first month, you won't be a recruiter for long, I imagine.) |

You don't own your visa in Taiwan and you're just as restricted on your workplace although many people work at more than one place illegally.
Be prepared to work kindergarten and/or have to pick up some privates if you want to make decent money. |

I talked to Rowan quite a bit before deciding on a job and he never pulled punches when describing things over here. No sugar-coated sales pitches.
You have to respect that. |

Ha, it's a shame he had to pick a job where everything will think he's a shyster and a crook.
I guess it's more important what people you know think of you, and it sounds like Rowan has got plenty of friends in his corner. Must be doing something right.
That said, I believe I've read some uncomplimentary things about the people he works with, the other recruiters there. |

that's what makes him a great recruiter. He's blunt in a positive way and not afraid to let you know the truth. |

the Rowan ads are humorous schtick... fairly clever IMO.
for e.g. last year he was advertising "jobs for ugly people". I laughed so hard I even reposted the ad right here on this forum.
maybe if the search feature works and goes back far enough I can even find it.
to me it's a clever advertising gimmick. |

Were they the ones with the ad claiming FREE KIMCHI FOR A YEAR? That one made me laugh! |

Rowan is a good guy and a good recruiter. I am doing my third contract through him, first one in a PS and couldnt be happier with the communication and honesty he has displayed. I would recommend him and ESL planet, especially for a returning teacher like myself |
