I have no more classes today and I'm bored. I'm also annoyed at the constant lack of toilet paper at my school. Seriously, how cheap do you have to be to not buy any toilet paper for your school, ever?! Confused

I bring my own, but they usually have the communal toilet paper outside the washroom stalls. I'd rather have it in the stalls, but it seems to be common in Korea to make it inconvenient to access toilet paper.

My bigger problem is with the lack of soap. I bring my own.

Your school probably has some but it's hiding in the storeroom in the main office.

Ohh I've given up on soap. It's hand sanitizer time. Rolling Eyes

Yeah, my other school has communal TP... still better than no TP.

See, this is something I don't understand. Do you teach at a country school? I was under the impression that the government gives a crapload of money to country schools. My other country school has the nicest facilities out of all the schools I've taught in (it even has a heater in the washroom so it's not freezing when you go in there, and they just had money to build a new English classroom too), but the school I'm at now is just so different in comparison. Why is it that some country schools are so nice and other ones get no funding? Confused

Country school? Do you mean public school? Or do you mean country like out in the boonies?

I teach at a public school. No heater in the washroom.. freezing cold tap water.. heat off in my office when I had to desk warm (har..). Heat off during winter vacation during my winter camps so I had to use the music room that had heaters that took about 4 hours to heat up the room to maybe 60 F.. We do have an English classroom~ They spend the budget on things that are only part of whatever the budget is allocated for. English classroom-- purely on building the classroom (lots of useless stuff.. billions of monitors sitting behind my desk now after my coteachers and I ripped them off the desks), winter camp budget-- fully spent on "supplies" and crapload of food (half for themselves)... They just have a weird way of spending. I attempted to use part of the winter camp budget to get supplies for the English classroom but I was rejected.. instead they bought more food.

A lot of it just depends on the area your school is in. Should be the same back home.

I've just used the toilet during my lunch break. The 'cleaner' had cleaned the bathroom. How do I know? Because the floor was wet and it looked almost dirtier than it did this morning.

If you ever feel guilty for not working hard at your job, look at the cleaners and realize you do work fairly hard.

I can't believe this particular cleaner manages to keep her job. Not all of them are bad, but some of them just run an old, wet, dirty mop over the floor and think they have cleaned it.

My school is meant to be a model school and Korea claims to be the best in the world. What a pathetic joke, their cleaners are useless. Laughing

advise to newbies. keep a bag of all the bathroom stuff you will need at school at your desk. i havie a small bag with soap, towel, toothbrush, toothpaste, mouthwash, deoderent, sand hanitizer (i realized i have lysdexia but i will leave that anyways) TP, and contact solution.

that makes life a lot easier.

we always have plenty of TP, several bars of soap, electronic hand dryers (that sometimes work); the water is heated to lukewarm in winter, there are some artificial flowers, hand lotion, and even hair brushes on a shelf that's decorated with a plastic doiley.

our western toilets have bidets and are often warm - which I think is kinda not sanitary - bacteria loves warmth and all - but whatever - is nice.

they still clean w/just water - hosing it down ever so often - and it got real smelly for a while so I brought in a nice air freshener which managed to stay put for an entire semester.

overall the best bathroom in any school I've worked in here in K.

just wish the kids would wash their hands!!! oh well, can't have everything! Surprised

I've worked at two universities and both don't have any TP (My current job is at a national university too!!).

On one English camp with over 200 children the teachers had to band together and protest several times before they relented and bought some.
I've also worked in several middle and elementary schools in the country. Most of the bathrooms there were disgusting and unsurprisingly all but one had no toilet paper.
