Your school let's you go home?
My school winds me at the beginning of each day, then when the key stops turning, they put me back in the closet, until the next day. You have a home? |

From the moment I arrive to the moment I leave it's 3.5 to 5.5 hours, add half an hour to that for hellos and goodbyes and that's 4-6 hours per day... one of the great things about hagwon life:
Fridays three hours and thirty minutes (four back-to-back 50 minute classes with no breaks inbetween, no expectation for me to come early: I make fridays review exercise game day anyways)
Thursdays three hours fifty minutes (four 50-min. classes with a 20-min. dinner break after the third class)
Tuesdays and Wednesdays four hours forty minutes (five classes with dinner break)
Mondays five hours thirty minutes (six classes, my longest day)
I have met plenty of other hagwon teachers who have a similar schedule, and certainly NONE who have had to stay an extra millisecond after their last class! |

I go in to prepare at 8:30 in the morning. I teach kindergarten and eat with the children. I go home for an hour after lunch. Then back for more teaching until 5:30 or 7:00. I usually spend at least a half hour after school, and then I pack some paperwork for home. I prepare my weekly lesson plans and homework on my computer at home. I usually come in for an hour on the weekend to print out stuff and photocopy, because that is when other teachers will not be swarming around the equipment. |

If your contract says those are your hours there's not much you can do about it, especially if they have "stuff" they want you to do.

Wait, what? I've met SOME who had to stay after their last class. Like, me at my last job and all my coworkers there. We also had a light schedule, like 2-3 classes a day but still had to stay for 8 hours a day (more, sometimes, if they decided to have a meeting before work). |

I teach at 3 rural public schools. One makes me stay until 5 even if I have no classes. One lets me leave after lunch, since I'm usually done teaching by then (or after classes if I'm not). The third lets me leave around 2:30.

I work a one PS... and I'm usually there from at least 8:30 am to 4:30 pm unless I go to the doctor, dentist, bank, post office or shopping during the day when I don't have classes. If I'm going to leave early, I just tell my 'handler' why.
I don't abuse the privilege. |

My schedule has changed this year. These bastards are now rinsing me tighter and tighter. I'm now in school for pretty much the full week i.e. 08:30 - 17:30. Prior to that though, I used to start at 10am twice a week and got pretty much every other Friday afternoon off. That's all changed now though, the shits. |

Get in there at 12.30 to start at 1.00. Finish at 5.25, and am out the door with the kids. So, 5 and a half hours.
Except on Tuesdays, when my first class isn't until 3.00. So I arrive at 2.30 and stay there for 3 hours.
Sweet. |

i'm there usually 1.30 - 8.30. 4 - 6 classes a day. Thursdays i roll in at 3 and go home at 8.30. i'm still "new" so once the boss starts trusting me more, i'll be rolling into work at around 2pm at the earliest. |

Same, except I go home after I finish prepping for the next day.
Doesn't make any difference on MF because I work till 4:30 those days, but on TuTh I'm done at 10:30. |
