Is anyone here going to, or has been to SMOE orientation at the Hyundai Learning Center.
I need some information. I heard a rumor that those with prior experience in the Korean public education system are exempt from attending.
Is this true? |

I had experience when they carted me off to Yong In. I believe your exempt only if you have experience with SMOE. If you want any information on your school or area find out from your recruiter(the SMOE people probably wont tell you). Be prepared to sneak off like a teenager if you want to have a drink. Take a cab to the emart if you need anything.
Just look at it as you would any other largely unreasonable but unchangeable reality. Grin and bear it.
Oh on the positive side you might make some friends. |

Once again, SMOE didn't listen to feedback from previous orientations.
New recruits loved meeting other foreign teachers.
But they hated the BS program they sat through for a week.
To top it off, it was stated if the higher ups (power tripping Jon Pak) even smelled alcohol on anyone's breath, they would be FIRED. They were allowed to drink the final night, but it was "high school field trip" all over again for the rest of the time.
One highlight: Being introduced to Korean culture including B-Boys who spoke with American urban (black) vernacular. "Aiight!"
Sparkling, fo' reals. |

Not surprisingly homes. I`m just surprised there`s not a live blog thread about the comings and goings from March 2009`s orientation. |
