I've read all over that 6 months is the point beyond which you're no longer liable for your plane ticket to Korea, but is that the law or just convention? My contract says 9 months. But my boss has violated and ignored the contract left and right -- maybe now I can have a turn? |

You should go by what your contract states. |

There is no "6 month" rule. It is standard, but whatever your contract says is the rule for you, and for your boss as well. |

Are you planning to stay in Korea? If so, then you might have a problem. But I don't really see how they can enforce it (other than to stand at the boarding gate at the airport) if you're going home. |

If you are one of the wise and lucky few who have not had two weeks pay held back, then quit when you want and do not worry about airfare reimbursement. If they've held back two weeks pay, then there's your airfare.
Just run. |

They hold back 2 weeks pay? I've never heard of that. Is it a new thing? |

he means that the pay period usually ends at the end of the month, yet many hagwons don't have pay day until the 10th of the following month (2 weeks pay is held until next pay day) |

I'm not in the 2-weeks-pay-withheld situation and I want to stay in the country (minus a possible visa run) so I suppose I'll have to try to haggle a bit. Or just pay in full; at this point it's surely worth it to get out. Still, anybody got any experience negotiating this type of thing? Advice? |

Haggling probably won't work.......when you start to haggle they will know you want to leave and then really screw you every single way they can. I f he hasn't been honoring the contract I doubt he will ever. He is Korean and will tell you anything you want to hear then screw you. Seems to be their way. |
