Fellows, I have this problem.
Perhaps I invited it by smiling too much, giving them the idea that I will be okay with it. Or maybe it was the hug, making them feel comfortable with the idea of touch.
Whenever I bend over to pick up a pen, a student will grope my butt. Whenever I'm standing straight in front of a student but fail to watch him, he'll try to grab my crotch. Last time, I fended off what seemed to be an attempt at dong-chim. That night I caught myself thinking, "I safeguarded my anal canal today, but could I keep it undiscovered tomorrow? Can my anus stay unviolated till the end of my term(5 months left)?"
There is a problem when a teacher asks those kind of questions instead of "what is the best way to utilize flash cards?" "What is the most appropriate method of dispensing rewards?"
Now I can't use the students' restroom. It's become impossible to use a urinal alongside a student.
As a solution, I'm thinking of taking some 'Everyday self-defence against sexual predators' courses.
Anyone share my experience? What would you do in my situation? |

| Grab (because it is always a boy) and yank his pointy, pixie sideburn as hard as you can - he will be on the verge of tears at this point ask him if he liked it and then grab the other pixie sideburn and give that a good tug - then he will leave your arse alone! |

| I had it happen twice with two different students, the first time I kneeled down and grabbed him by the scruff of his coat and said in a very serious voice "don't do that ever again", It happened again about 3 weeks later and I grabbed this kid by his coat and picked him up to my level said the same thing. One other time I was leading the kids in this balancing competition where we stand on one foot and grab our other foot and close our eyes etc...trying to be the last one standing. Since the class is rather small I was close to this one kid's desk and he just reached out and flicked me in the balls with his index finger. I fell over and lost the competition. I let him get away with it cause I thought it was hilarious, if one of my friends back home was hopping around on one foot with his eyes closed and hopped his balls within flicking range, I just might take a shot. At any rate the word seems to be out, because nobody tries to grope me and I see every student in my elementary school at least once a week. |

Yeah, you have to hit them. I reflexively backhanded a kid once. I was bent over at the computer and a kid gave me the old poop needle and blammo! came the hand across the cheek. Total reflex. Never happened again. |

Wouldnt that be a fireable offence? I'm not sure if I want to do that in public school |

| How old are these kids that are grabbing you guys? I never heard of this happening in American classrooms, but maybe I don't know enough teachers. I wouldn't put up with that stuff even once, but can you get fired for even touching a kid in a rough way, no matter what provoked it? |

Never heard a thing about it. I think the whole "the kid stuck his fingers in my ass and I accidentally hit him" excuse might apply. |

Yeah, I agree hitting will solve the problem but my hagwon has a strict no-touch policy.
The kids in my class are 8-9 western age. young kids, but not too young. |

I've heard of everyone from kindergarten preschool kids to high school girls doing it to foreign teachers. At my first job I almost got it a couple times, but I think that somehow the kids knew that was the one no-no re: FTs where they didn't want to go. I can't imagine it happening at my current job and if it did I'd make sure it only happened once.
How you can handle it depends on your school. The fact that I could handle it pretty well however I like probably explains why it's never happened to me at my school. I did once get ddong-chimed by a little girl in the Outback Steakhouse in Changwon, I believe on 26 August, 2006, at about 1PM. I remember because I had just returned from Canada, had been back in Korea for less than an hour, and it made for quite the Welcome-Back-to-Korea present. |

Sucks to be you, I guess. I suppose next time around you'll have to find a job where tolerating molestation by children isn't one of your job expectations. |
