Personally, I think Andie's doing a dodgy, but it may not make him any better or worse at the actual JOB of teaching English in Korea (or anywhere else). So good luck to him if he can pull it off! Just so long as he's comfortable knowing that he's ripping off himself, as well as Korean Immigration, his potential director, and students. Karma works man, one way or another it'll come back to you.

This strikes me as being a bit self-contradictory. You admit that he's ripping everybody off, including his students, but at the same time say that he still may be a good teacher. That's kind of like saying we shouldn't judge a dentist for practicing without a license because he may be a good dentist. How can he be called a good dentist/teacher if he's a fraud (regardless of how well he actually does his job)? I think that's the point that some were making here.

Yeh I hear you JB it is seemingly self contradictory. All I'm trying to say is that I, and, I'm willing to guess pretty much all of the posters in here, have no idea about Andie's abilities regardless of how he represents himself. If Andie takes the dodgy option of the fake degree then he is a fraud no question.

But practicing fraudulently doesn't neccesarily mean that he is unprofessional at the JOB!! It's just a distinction between ability, and accreditation. Having a degree, and being a native speaker doesn't mean you or I will be a better ESL teacher than anyone else be it Andie, or the guy you sat next to on the bus yesterday.

I'm working now in a job that usually requires a two year diploma as a minimum requirement. Myself, and a co-worker don't have this qualification, and we are probably two of the better workers compared to those doing the same job with the qualification. Well that's how I see it Wink. I'm sure they might disagree, but my point is that I have no problem performing the same duties to the same standard, or possibly higher.

And before anyone makes a running leap onto their high horse..... there was no deceit involved in getting the job. Mine was awarded based on experience and ability. I worked my way up, others studied for the bit of paper. But we all got to the same place. A bit of paper proves little about a person's abilities. At best it's an indication and little else.

Spade a spade... Andie is cheating pure and simple if he goes ahead, and it'll catch up with him sooner or later.

Hope that clarifies what I'm trying to say.

Cheers

Yeh Andie update us!!

And since it's such a hot topic does anyone know of (or are brave enough to admit to..) teachers working in Korea with a fake degree?

I've heard the second hand stories of people working in Japan with fake degrees. Is Japan a softer target for this sort of practice?

I know of two personally. basically the recruiter set the whole thing up and he pays off immigration and bingo, 2 new teachers.
They are not bad people and work just as hard as anyone i know. i think a lot of people here are protective of what they have earnt(and rightly so) so get a little angry about cheaters I suppose.

Yes, I understand what you are saying, and I agree that having a degree doesn't necessarily make one a better teacher. What I was trying to say is that I don't believe that one can call themselves "professional" in any job when the job was acquired by fraudulent means. He may do great job in the classroom, but I think for one's conduct to be considered "professional", there is more involved than just how one does their job on a daily level.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that there is a difference between being a "good" (i.e.- effective) teacher, and being a "professional" one. To me, "professional" isn't just about job performance, but also about the character that one displays in their working life. Therefore, I believe the term "professional" is out of the reach of those who lie about their qualifications to get a job.

Go the beginning of the thread and read the qualities of andie's english.
Then imagine him teaching English.

Hey again...

BJ you're dead right there, and please don't anyone think I was making an appeal for some sort of 'professional' recognition for Andie, and his antics.

Someone out there has a signature saying that, 'excellence is living every moment with integrity' (or something similar), but that's something I agree with, and one of the reasons I belive that Andie will get his bum bitten if goes ahead with it.

As so many posters have pointed out the quality of Andie's posts are lacking in professionalism, as is this 'career move' of his, and his choice to blithely announce it to everyone here in Dave's.

As my Dad used to say, (over and over) Andie needs to take a good hard look at himself. I guess that's what I was getting at in my original post. When I say "Good luck to him", I'm implying that he'll need it. Wink

Anyway blah, blah de blah!! Laughing Enough of this... I'm going out for a drink, I'll have one for you all.

Cheers!!

Maybe you should look at the date of the first post, before offering a job?

Guys I didn't give him the failure, nor am I try to pass myself off for doing it.

The masterpiece done above in red ink is all Gord's good work.

I merely bring it to your attention.

Cheyne, Andie is the man he will help you out real good. He's making cake hand over fist and he's got a sweet uni gig.
