|
|
I want to stream video from my computer to my TV. I don't want to spend a ton of money to accomplish this.
I know you can stream with AppleTV but I think that is too expensive. I just want something I can plug into my network and TV, and have it play the video from my comp.
Also, its gotta support the usual file formats found on the net (H264, xvid, divx, etc....)
Anyone got suggestions? |

What ports do you have on your computer for sending video/audio information to another device? The most common outputs are S-video, VGA, and HDMI (I believe). (Google those terms to see which matches your computer.)
In my case I have a 2 year-old laptop with just a 7-pin S-video output and an older TV. I bought a 5000won 4-pin (as this all they have) S-video to RWY cable. Connected the T.V. to the laptop, tweaked a few settings, and voila you have the image on your computer on the television. The cord also came with an audio connector which I plug in like a typical set of speakers/headphones. Although not the best quality picture it works great for watching shows you get off the net.
Sorry if this doesn't apply to you. |

I'm talking about something like this:
http://www.crunchgear.com/2008/12/14/review-western-digital-wd-tv-hd-media-player/
At $120 its the perfect price point. I wish it supported network, but I can just as well copy all my media to an external hard drive and plug it in.
My sister has one in the States and she says it plays everything she throws at it.
Too bad they don't sell them here in Korea. Why can't there be a product just like that, but with ethernet support, and around the 200,000w price range? |

You'll owe me a beer now! I jumped through all the hoops and finally found something that plays ANY screen, no fuss no muss and all the plug ins too.
Go to Yongsan and get the KeyLite - by AverMedia. It is pear shaped , pretty small. One end with all the plug ins for TV/second laptop/projector. Other end for the computer. USB powered. It will work fine. Cost me 30,000 won a couple of years ago.
