If you really really want out, late this, or next week might be your window, cause it's likely going to go back down the crapper.

http://money.cnn.com/2009/03/10/markets/markets_newyork/index.htm?cnn=yes

Stocks: Biggest gains of '09
The Dow gains 379 points, Nasdaq surges 7% and S&P 500 rallies 6.4% on Citigroup and possible limit on short selling.

But the rally was broad based, with all 30 Dow components advancing. In addition to the Dow's financial stocks, other big gainers included Alcoa (AA, Fortune 500), Caterpillar (CAT, Fortune 500), General Electric (GE, Fortune 500) and General Motors (GM, Fortune 500).

A variety of big tech shares jumped, too, including Cisco Systems (CSCO, Fortune 500), eBay (EBAY, Fortune 500), Dell (DELL, Fortune 500), Google (GOOG, Fortune 500) and Dow component Intel (INTC, Fortune 500).

Year-to-date, the Dow and S&P 500 were down around 25% as of Monday's close, while the Nasdaq was down around 17%. In light of the massive selloff, analysts have been saying for some time that the market is due for a sharp, bear market rally. That seemed to be taking hold Tuesday morning.

The rally is an oversold bounce off these recent levels, Schrader said, but it also has the potential to usher in a bigger advance within the ongoing downtrend. That was also the case after the stock market hit lows in both October and November of last year.

"There's a chance that, if this gets enough gas, it could move up a lot more," Schrader said. "There's tons of cash sitting in money markets and if people start to think they're going to miss out, they're going to want to jump back in."

Huh? I'm talking about the people who have been saying that they are waiting for a little positive news (stronger won) to buy their home currency and get out of here while the getting is good.

For me it's different...but that's a different thread...

KB - 1467W/1US$ right now.

I knew Caterpillar and GM were hugely undervalued and I'd thought about buying their stock. It's about as safe a long term investment as there is. The depressed share value was temporary and is only going to go up more.

GE I dunno... they have changed their corporate strategies too often to seem stable. I basically wrote that company off years ago when they got away from their bread and butter.

I was actually thinking about a Korean stock exchange index fund. it's so low right now that there's not really anywhere to go but up. That, coupled with the fact that I bought won at 1500 COULD net a very solid return in the next two years when I get out and buy dollars.

Of course, I could be wildly wrong and end up teaching ESL online until I'm 75 years old.... Crying or Very sad

I've been following this and a few others. The market hasn't really gone down yet for REAL, I think it still has a way to go in the next year or more. I don't think it'll bottom until at least sometime between 2010-2011. Stay in cash or precious metals in the meantime.

So what? That's a miniscule percentage. Being here for more than one contract still means you're locked in, genius.

"The market hasn't really gone down yet for REAL, "

That's a little scary to think of. You might be right, but I also don't think we would see levels like 1998 again....

jkelly80....what has contracts got to do with anything?
And as the other poster said, there are more people here than just the one year and out E-2's.
There are many people other than any kind of English teacher as well.
About a million foreigners in fact.
So in reality, it is the one year and out E-2's who represent the miniscule percentage.

Just so you know eh....

Nice play on the user name, very original.

The vast majority of EFL teachers in Korea do not work more than one year. the vast majority of people on this board are efl teachers. these are facts. but feel free to call names like a 10 year old.

yeah, tell that to the KOREAN immigration office, the KOREAN labor board and any other KOREAN administration office when they call you on it. The only way you could come close to winning is by being as far away as possible when the sh!! storm comes down.
