Any tips or advice?

I just had a nervous breakdown in the middle of the class. Half were bored, half didn't understand and almost all of them talked to each other instead of listening to me every 30 seconds after I would manage to get their attention.

I've never had to teach 30+ kids from 4 different grades before...

I'm assuming you're teaching at a public school. Do you have a Korean co-teacher? If not, why would you agree to teach without one.

In your situation, let the K co-teacher be in charge and you be the assistant.

My co-teacher was there working on her own things the entire time but I guess this is my class to teach. In classes where we co-teach she is dominant and I assist, but like I said, it appears that they want only me to teach this class.

My co-teacher actually stood up and scolded the students for being so rude which was much needed. Then we sent them back to their classroom because I had no idea what to do since my lesson was not appropriate for all those grade levels (I was under the impression I'd be teaching only 5/6th).

It's called the "instrumental class" because it's all the students who are in band together. The band/instrumental teacher brings them to me (who knows why? Not me.) and I am supposed to teach them English.

I will need to continue teaching this class, I'm sure, so any advice would be lovely.

If my new co-teacher was in charge, it would be total chaos. She can't even raise her voice. After class, she agreed when Grade 5/6 misbehave, we will ask them to write 'I am sorry' 50 times for homework.

Today, I started to ask students to stand in the corner with their 'hands on head'. My new co-teacher seems reluctant to discipline students, but they would walk all over her, if she was in charge. She doesn't seem to mind either. Shocked

We used to discipline students almost immediately with my last co-teacher. I am going to do that from now on. Laughing

If you have many diffrent levels in one just give a basic lesson but get them to do their best at talking. After the basic kids says one word get the better kids to try to add some words to it and the best kids to say a complete sentence.

Spend some time learning what you're doing with certain issues: lesson planning, supplementing the books, classroom routines and management.
Here are some links for you to work with:

For elementary lessons take a look at the co-teaching lessons plans located here.
Here's a link to the 5th grade songs, and a link to the 6th grade songs. Download karafun, and then just click and play. These songs are specific for the chapters of the national elementary text. Here's the link to them for a web based version. There is not a song for every chapter.
Also, bookmark my elementary youtube site. There are 82 songs specifically geared for young learners: easily enough for an entire year.
SO you've got choices: youtube, or karafun, but either way these songs are a great addition, especially since they're specific for the content of the national textbook.

Also visit my Esnips elementary resource page. Most of the files are geared to the national curriculum, but there are other resources: projects, lesson planning ideas, etc.

Download Karaoke software here

Bookmark clipart sights for flashcards here

And finally here are some ideas on how to run a language class. Check this site, and this one).

To get started on the activites download these from my esnip's:

1. Warm ups (warms can be great motivational activites and also they can serve as preperatory steps into more difficult activities)

2. Cooperative Games for Interactive Play

3. A TEFL Reader

4. Low Level Adult Activities

5. Thunder Bay Multicultural Association EFL Activites

I see. So you are told to babysit 30+ mixed grade students. Confused

In that case, do exactly that and let them all watch youtube movies for 40 minutes.
