Every semester, these douchebags from hagwons or businesses selling English materials attempt to "talk" to students in between classes at my university. Our boss told us to tell these guys no, and not to let them talk. The difficult thing is that our school also has students from certain groups talk to our classes immediately after classes are finished.

So today, this guy (who looks a bit like a student) asks if he could talk to my class before they leave. Knowing better, I asked him, "Are you working for XXX University?" He lies and says, "Yes, I am" and goes on into a speil for about 5 minutes. It drags on and on and I soon realize that he doesn't work for our school when he pulls out a folder full of DVD's. He's selling them for some business.

So I made him stop.. One step further, I told him to come with me to the main office so he could explain why he was here. This freaked him out. He wasn't about to go there, and tried to bolt. So I grabbed his arm and tried to calm him down. He kept saying, "I have to be somewhere, I have a schedule." I said, "Well, the students all left for lunch, so there aren't any classes to talk to. Let's go to the office, because I want to know why you're speaking to my classes."

Basically, the guy kept walking in different directions not knowing where he was going but trying to act like he was going somewhere. He was quite perturbed that I was following him. He happened to walk right by the main office door, so grabbed his arm and I asked him to please come inside and talk. This began to cause a bit of a stir as people began to watch while the guy protested and began calling me names in Korean. He was growing increasingly embarrased as I pulled him and he half resisted going to the main office. He bolted again, and I grabbed his bag. The clasp broke, and he threw a fit -- telling me I must buy him a new one. So I said, "Well, let's go to the office and talk about it." He wouldn't do that.

Long about this time, one of the deans of the university happens to walk by (he speaks excellent English) and the movie guy's face drops as I call for help. He tries to run one more time, as the dean approaches and asks what's going on.

The guy was upset, embarrased, and pissed that I broke his bag. I told him, "Hey, if you wouldn't have resisted, and come to the office, then your bag wouldn't have broken."

The dean said he'd take care of it, and he kicked the guy off campus -- apparently talking to the guy's boss in the process. The dean later told me I did the right thing.

The guy wasn't small, so I'm sure it was quite entertaining for the crowd.

After I broke his bag (accidentally) he tried to tear the fastener off of the wrist of my trench coat to get even. He wasn't able to.

It's too bad you won't get any kind of reward for all of that extra effort....

Not extra effort. I'd have done the same in my own country (although I would have been able to figure out what was happening far more quickly).

Good. I'd hope you would. Then you could tell the police:

1. Why you were on campus when you weren't authorized to be there.
2. Why you were attempting to interrupt classes to sell a product you weren't supposed to be selling there.
3. Why you resisted going to the office to discuss why you were there when kindly asked to do so by an employee of the university, and decided to attempt to run away instead.
4. Why you acted so rude to someone older than you.

Basically, you'd end up looking like an ass, and I would laugh at you afterward.

If someone tried to do this on an American college campus, they'd be lucky if they didn't get arrested themselves. File a police complaint? Even ten years ago, long before VA Tech, my on-campus pigs would laugh in your face.

Why didn't you just let him leave instead of making a huge deal about it by taking him to the office? Rolling Eyes Oh, look at me! I'm going to be Mr. rule follower and get this rule breaker in trouble!
