The huge Kyobo bookstore in Jongno or at small bookstores like Bandi&Luini? Or are the prices around the same?

Laughing and I buy lots of books there for under 6000 won.

Only used though. I don't look much at their paltry new selection.

there's a place that sells cheap used books - most around 4,000 or so - near Gyeongbok palace. I swear the name is Hank's Books but I could be wrong. It's at the intersection where the street that takes you to Cheong Wa Dae intersects with the main roads.

Price compare/shop. Their prices do fluctuate with the exchange rate.

I used to shop at What The Book but haven't been back after the last time I went shopping there. I went to buy a lonely planet, and when I went to buy it, the price was about 3,000 to 4,000 more then what the price tag said. The cashier then pointed out a sign saying that because of inflation the prices had been raised 10 or 15% (I can't remember), which was fine. Either way, the price they were charging was actually above what the sign said and when I explained it to the girl, she just couldn't get it. Anyways, I bought it cheaper at Kyobo.

I haven't noticed that one bookstore is consistently cheaper. It depends on the exchange rate, which can fluctuate.

If you're buying new books, be sure to look for books in a cheaper format. Several of the bookstores shelve the pocket editions separately from the trade paperbacks. Trade paperbacks are larger, usually with a nicer typeface. The pocket editions are printed on cheaper paper, they are smaller and almost half the price of trade paperbacks. A lot of popular books are available in both formats, so if saving money is a priority, look for the book in a pocket edition--it will be in a separate area or on a lower shelf, usually not prominently displayed.

Also, I don't know which Bandi & Luni you go to, but the one in Coex is not really small and has a good English language selection.

Rocky Racoon and Hogwanguy79 have both hghly recommended Whatthebook to me, so I've decided to try that place out.

With all the glowing reviews these guys were giving the place, you'd think they were the same guy!

Crazy.

It used to be called 'Seoul Selection'. I have been there.

That is a great little place. Very cramped, but it feels like a proper bookstore, unlike WTB, which feels like a ghetto Barnes and Noble.
