THIS IS NOT AT MY SCHOOL. A friend has a situation where the FT teaches more hours than the Korean co-teacher, while the Korean co-teacher is given Tuesday off for "rest." This sounded odd, to me. Has anyone else ever heard of this situation?

I took a day off in the autumn when I caught pink eye because the school doesn't have hot water or soap for the students to wash their hands. I said this was the reason and there was no fuss about it. Still no soap or hot water though Rolling Eyes

So if your friend wants to take a Tuesday off I'm sure she can.

If you want a day off, call in sick. There are hardly any holidays anyhow.

That is why I keep a bottle of ethanol (87%/vol.) in my desk drawer and regularly 'wash' my hands with it... besides, after my last class on Fridays, when mixed with OJ, it makes a 'kick-ass' screwdriver! Wink

Laughing Laughing Laughing Nice. I wish I'd thought of that a year ago.

OP - While I've personally never heard of such a situation, I'd guess that your friends co-teacher has some kind of serious health problem that she needs regular treatment for. There's a teacher at my school who seems to be absent every second week. According to my gossipy co-teacher, it's because she's on the brink of a mental breakdown.

Does she get every Tuesday off for 'rest'? If so, that sounds very odd indeed.

If the teacher is female I believe they are allowed one day a month off for "personal" reasons. But it has to be the same time (period) each month.

They do know that the solar calendar and the female reproductive system are not in perfect harmony, right?

You know, I experienced the cold water thing in the wintertime, but I found the water heater in the boys bathroom and had to climb up on the wall to turn it on because no one else had. Now there's hot water in the boys/girls bathrooms in the school because I did it myself! You might be able to do the same thing if you look around the bathroom. The heaters usually look like an air conditioning unit stuck up on the wall near one of the sinks. In my school, they are all in the boys bathrooms.
