I know that this has been talked about before, but I can't seem to find any straight answers. If you leave your job early, giving notice, what is the most efficient way to leave and come back as a tourist.
Should one get an exit order, or can you just leave by taking a ferry to Japan and handing in your ARC card when you leave (the E2 visa is a multiple entry valid for a few more months). Then can you turn around and come back the next day and get a tourist visa to travel and visit in Korea. Are there any issues with this process, or anything that one should do instead, to make sure that you can come back as a tourist... (no teaching, no working). Also, is another ferry ticket back to Japan sufficient proof of leaving the country again for a tourist visa. Not really sure where to go when leaving Korea again, or the specific date yet, so I don't want to buy an expensive plane ticket yet.
If anyone has done this recently, or has details about it that would be great. I think I am confused because of the option of getting an exit order. But I don't think an exit order is needed since there is no need to be able to teach again in Korea, just need to be able to spend some more time here, a few months or more, preferably.
I appreciate any help I can get on this. Thank you. |

| The best course for you, I believe, is to go to immi and get an exit order. That should give you enough time to hop around Korea. When your E2 expires, you'll be ready to leave, unless you're going Zen for several months. |

| Thanks for the suggestion. But, isn't an exit order only good for 30 days? Looking to stay in Korea for at least a few more months, other activities besides sightseeing to do. So 30 days definitely won't be enough. |

| Can't you stay in Korea for up to 90 days without a visa? |

Go to the Busan International Ferry terminal, buy a round-trip ticket to Fukuoka, Japan, hand in your ARC (make sure the Immi officer cancels your work visa), jump on the boat to Japan, clear Immi, jump on the same boat back to K-land and enter on a tourist visa. |

Yep, did that last year... went to Fukuoka for lunch lol. Onmy way back, I was thinking, "damn, I don't have an onward ticket out of Korea. Maybe I'm gonna get screwed over." Didn't happen. Got back to Busan, tourist visa stamp, no questions, no problems. |

If you know you're going to be here that long, follow Cruise's suggestion. |

| If you're just turning around and returning to Korea, Tsushima's even cheaper. |

| On a related note, the other night I was told by a couple of guys who've been here for several years that if I leave on less-than-amicable terms with my employer he can, with a simple phone call, have me deported, blacklisted and banned from reeentering the country, even as a tourist. Is this as far-fetched and just plain untrue as it sounds to me? |

Thank you for your suggestions. I think turning in the ARC on the way to Japan and then getting a tourist visa on the way back in is the best way to go. I just wasn't sure if there would be any complications given the multiple entry work visa right now, or if immigration would be picky about giving a tourist visa, the day after you left your job (before your E2 expired). But it sounds like it shouldn't be a problem.
If there is any more information that I should know, keep the suggestions coming. Thank you for the help. |

Not only can your employer get your banned from reentering Korea, he can make a simple phone call to your country's State Department and get your ass banned from being able to reenter your own home country. Yeap, you'll be like that guy Tom Hanks played who got stuck at the airport. And did you know that your employer can make a simple phone call to the Korean Grand Dragon and report you. He will then turn back time and arrange it so your ass is never born!
Can't even come back as a tourist? Jesus what people will believe. |
