Candy and Flowers okay?

Do guys go all out on this day for their significant others?

Are guys expected to get lavish gifts?

the straight up korean style (for college-aged koreans at least) seems to be candy and flowers presented in a very ostentatious way, accompanied by some kind of well-planned-out but slightly absurd/over-the-top romantic gesture.

this is just what i've heard some people brag about or praise though, so i don't think it's representative of what all people actually take the time to do.

get her a lil' sumthin,'...then bang her like you haven't in awhile.

Just to save you a later thread:

Black day protocol involves haunting all your local 'jajangmyun' shops and collecting phone #s from your woman's peers Wink

What's the protocol for white day? I think the better question is "Who gives a F***?"

Dead on. It's much better having one day for the girls to lavish attention on the guys and the other day for the reverse. Let's face it, Valentine's Day is pretty much for the ladies back home. And yeah, it's all a corporate sham.

Now that it's over, this is how it went for me (first time ever):

1. Went to Lotte and got a really nice pack of handmade candy with a delicate, rather nice rose made of sugar in an acrylic cylinder: SCORE

2. Surprised her with the gift, she said it was the first time ever she got something on White Day and was almost move to tears: SCORE

3. Took her out with friends for a sumptuous dinner at the Fish Market (nothing says "I Love You" more than two plates of fresh sea cucumber!): SCORE

4. Took her to Sinchon and get her (and myself) really happy and drunk at Nori: SCORE

5. Got up to take her to my place and dropped the gift on the floor; when I picked it up there were about 999 sugar crystals wheere the rose used to be: FAIL

6. Realised the situation and responded with suppressed hysterical laughter why she was breaking into tears: EPIC FAIL (thank you, CASS)

7. Paid 4 man Won for a taxi since she decided to go to her home rather than join me at my place: FAIR ENOUGH

8. Went to Itaewon and switched to harder drinks, got went home and read Bill Bryson until I passed out on the couch.

I don't think I'll go for another White Day next year. I really like the black noodle dishes. Also, Lotte should continue selling WD gifts the day after because I'm sure there must be lots of people who had the exact same experience I had and who's need to buy a replacement gift on 15th.

I'll definitely go back to the fish market though!

Poor lad.
A small box of chocolate truffles, a normal lunch, shagging at a 25000 motel for 4 hours, Indian for dinner then dropping her off at her house and then going drinking with my coworkers till two was what happened to me. Not a bad day.

I laughed, I cried, I was moved. And I thought my White Day sucked...
