Don't know, but around here, in the river beds, you often see small groups set up for a weekend of fishing and drinking. They have fires, tents, coolers, all you need.

This is Asia not Soviet Canuckistan or The United Straight Jackets of
George Bush. You can do anything you want here. Just be mindful
of fires and private property.

There is a camping trip coming up May 2nd and 3rd on Deokjeok
Island off the coast of Incheon. (50 min. ferry from Incheon harbour)
Really nice beach, campfires etc.

According to one of the guidebooks (Moon or Lonely Planets), camping is legal on all beaches in Korea. Good luck finding a peaceful one on the mainland, one not swamped with restaurants and noraebangs.

When: May 2nd, 3rd 2009 (2nd-5th for some)

Price: Free This is a DIY affair

How: 60min. ferry from Domestic Ferry Terminal in Yeonam Budu(Incheon Port), bus to beach 10min

Ferry Info: (032)887-2891~5

Abodes: There is camping on the beach or motels, I recommend camping.

Food: There are restaurants and supermarkets, again I recommend
bring your own food in a cooler and cooking on the beach.

Notes: The ferry is usually really full this time of year so I would
reserve tickets now.

Lots of rivers for camping in Gangwando. Two summers ago I camped on the Nerimcheon, a long river, but only parts of it are nice for camping. Popular in the summer but still nice for swimming. With a little exploring and a topo. map you can follow a creek and have a dip in some of the small pools.

Poet13, where are you?

The only thing bad about the mass-foreigner camping on Deokjeokdo is few bad apples getting too drunk and aggressive. Too drunk is no problem, but when people start having problems over firewood being taken from one group's stack to another, it's plain stupid. But that's caused by just a few idiots swiping wood. Oh, I forgot, there is too drunk. Last year a girl fell in a fire trying to jump over it and all her wasted friends wouldn't listen to or respect the trained nurse's aid who knew first aid.

On the other hand, we had kind of a gazebo made there one year. We
put two soccer goals together and wrapped plastic around them. It was
great.

Girls would come over to our gazebo and poke their heads in. We would
yell that they could come in only if they were topless! They were so
wacked they stripped off their tops and swaggered in. It was kind of like
the Playboy Mansion on Deokjeokdo.

But ya, I remember the big American guy who used to get REALLY
wasted there and start yelling at the locals and other campers. He kicked
his KGirl into the fire and then she tripped him in later. Ah, good times.

Wandering down to the boats at night and exploring them is fun, too. Last year, we found a small building that was unlocked. It looked like a store that was going to open. Lots of goods in there, plus sleeping quarter supplies in the back. We didn't steal anything, but lesser people would've looted the food for sure.

That's ok. I can quite understand that. A general idea as you stated was all I wanted to know. I have spend most of my outdoor time in Gangwando where there also some very nice areas to camp by a river. That was why I asked.

Having a car would make it a lot easier to do these kinds of things unless you have a lot of free time. Taking the buses makes it fairly complicated (taking gear, getting to a more isolated place, the extra time involved in not going there directly) unless you know exactly where you are going. And even then, those places will often be on the beaten track and so not as enjoyable.

Yeah, bus is complicated. I go everywhere on my bicycle, and I hav a nice carrying system.
I'm going to order a bike trailer this weekend so my family and I can go places. Really looking forward to that.

Just how I like my camp-outs. Wink
