You're in Korea, do you expect every Dong, Young, & Hyun to speak English? If everyone spoke English you would be out of a job.

As opposed to our "fake" countries. And why are you posting in here if you're obviously not teaching in Korea? Or are you just taking a break from you 6-figure job, and getting BJ's from porn stars, to heap scorn upon us poor ESL teacher/losers from your lofty position in the sky?

The OP raised a valid question.

Of course a boss can be perfectly reasonable and professional, whether he/she speaks english or not.

However, if he doesnt speak english then that raises the chances that he will be 'more korean' in the way he thinks.

If he speaks english then he'll be more likely to have travelled, and he'll understand how international business relationships are conducted. He will learn from his travels that lying and cheating are not good.

I worked for a boss that spoke english, and for a boss that did not speak english. The one that did not speak english had such a backward way of managing that he could not keep any staff (korean or foreign).

You can read the paragraphs above and substitute the word English for any other international language (spanish, french, whatever).....it doesn't have to be english specifically. There are 2 types of koreans....those that have travelled outside Korea and those that have not. They're very different people.
