Hi,
I'm living in Beijing and here the prices of Apple products are much more expensive than in Hong Kong or Korea (300-400 usd for the new Imac I want). Since I love Seoul I'm thinking I can get a cheap flight, spend a weekend there and buy my Imac.
I was also thinking that maybe I can buy the computer in an Apple Distributor that applies the Tax Free and save more money. Do you know any store with tax free where I can find this product? And do you think that i can have problems with the airline or custom guys in Beijing?

thanks!!

I bought my imac in Yongsan. I paid cash, so they gave me a pretty big discount (didn't charge tax). This was about 2 years ago, though, so I'm not sure if they still do this...they don't exactly advertise it!!

You shouldn't have trouble at customs, unless you have goods that are worth over 10k USD.

...come quick while the Won is still sitting at the bottom of the barrel, and it just might be worth your time!!!

All the prices on ipods recently went up a hell of a lot (ipod touch 2 32gb went from 470,000 to 690,000 because of the dollar won issue.)

There are two things you should be aware of when buying a Mac in a country you don't live in. I am an Authorized Apple Reseller in Phuket, I was a teacher in Korea before this.

First the worldwide warranty for Apple products only applies to portable devices. ie not iMacs, Mac Pro, Mac Mini, Cinema Display etc. MacBook, MB Pro iPod are covered. So if you have to take it for service you have to ship it to Korea and back at your own expense.

Second, some resellers will buy computers with basic specs from the factory at Apple and then "upgrade" them with inferior hardware, two problems again arise, hardware that hasn't been tested and authorized by Apple and it voids the warranty.

I am not saying don't buy it but you should know the facts. you can pm me if you want to know more.

Cheers
RG
