Hey,

Not sure if anyone knows the answer to this, but I'll try.

I'm an American and plan to go to Pakistan this summer for a trek up in the K2 region.

I obviously need a visa to go there and contacted the Pakistan Embassy here and they said that I could apply for the visa here, but that I needed a Letter of Invitation from my countries Embassy.

So I contacted the American Embassy and they said they have never done such a thing or even heard of a Letter of Invitation.

So, my question is.....has anyone here ever successfully gotten a visa for Pakistan from here?

Or does anyone know of a travel agency here that can organize the details and stuff for the visa for me?

I'm at a loss of what to do.

Thanks guys!

Mike

Maybe I'm misreading your post, but it appears that you need to contact the PAKISTANI embassy in the US in order to get an invitation not the US embassy.

Otherside,

Hmm, I didn't think about that possibility. Thanks for the heads up. I'm definately going to try now to contact the Pakistan Embassy in the states.

Thanks,

Mike

Hey Everyone,

Actually, I just checked and the LOI has to be from the American Embassy.

So I'm back to ground zero....any other ideas?

I went several years back and did all that in India...that's an option; go to India and have an agency do it for you. I don't recall getting the LOI but it's possible. I had an agency in Delhi do it.

Good luck and enjoy!

You're American, right? Stay out of Pakistan unless you want your head reattached with wood screws.

Thanks for the tip, although the area that I'm going to hasn't been affected by the terrorism.

I'm planning on doing a trek in that northeastern area called the Concordia/Gondogoro La trek which goes up to K2 Base Camp and then over a pass. In total 21 days, but all in the complete wilderness. Most of it will be on glaciers.

I will have to go through Islamabad though and that's where the greatest risk will be. The trekking company has promised to accompany me throughout, the whole time.

I do appreciate the heads up though, and if I were travelling to Peshawar or staying in the large cities for a long time, I'd be a lot more worried.

I'll definately be keeping my eyes and ears open though and if worse comes to worse I can always cancel.
