Strangely, an article about how to compete with open source software led me to this great piece of open source software for teachers. It is free, runs in Java so that you can use it on any operating system (MAC OSX, Linux, Windows) provided that you have the Java runtime environment installed.
It doesn't have much in the way of graphics, but it works quite well otherwise.

Google Java + whatever operating system you use if you can open JAR. If you can open a JAR file then you dont have Java installed.
Remember that you are going to have to put the Java file somewhere where you wont forget where it is because its not going to be added to your program menu. |

| When your kids want a game and you want something that will at least make them practice their listening skills it can be good for young kids (K-3). I find this especially useful for teaching phonics and basic vocabulary. You can put pictures into this program as well. |

I agree on the virtues, but I wouldn't say it's unknown. A lot of people utilise the game. |

Well, not enough, in my opinion. I think it should be an integral part of any English curriculum worth it's salt. I just can't say enough about the depth of its applicability. Heck, I'm playing right now! |

Yep...it's so easy now! Bingo has become a realistic option for weekly or even daily use! It was so out of reach before; the logistics of coming up with those cards was enough to make one fall back on hangman! Now, those days are long gone.
