I've been in Korea for about 6 months now and I've been approached numerous times by older Korean men who ask me either:

"How old are you?"
"How much?"
"Where you from"

Usually I get all or some combination of the above phrases.
So, to my understanding, they think I'm a Russian prostitute? Rolling Eyes

Does anyone have any witty responses or stories they'd like to share? I've got nothing...

Yes, I think other women on here have noted that before as well. It's pretty disgusting, but par for the course in Korea.

think of it as a compliment.

no one is confusing you for a Western ESL teacher or Westerner period.

you should most certainly have the pick of the litter of any hagwon or public school teaching positions.

congratulations.

A russian woman I met once, who is married to a korean guy, told me about the time someone thought her husband was a pimp...and she the 'ho.
-As she said, a Korean guy can beat the hell out of somebody as long as he is 1)older and 2)also korean.
-So marry a rich korean dude.

I would rather believe OP is smoky hot than think she is a troll. Laughing Laughing

But I really doubt if what she complaint is real.

OP, where were you for NUMEROUS times inquired of by those shameless old Korean men? Do you always walk around the red light district? I have been in Korean for 4 years and I get my chances being approached by old men only in subway or on mountain (I guess old people there are not horney enough to ask stupid questions like those you got). Wink

Sorry for being nitpicking, I just watched too much detective films. Confused

Are you saying 93.625% of the Russian women there are whores?
BTW, blame me for being stupid or whatever, but cant people with a little bit common sense tell a prostitute from a female passerby?

It's happened to me several times where I don't get asked I'm from Russia: I get told that I'm from Russia. A prominent example comes to mind: I'm out with friends, and we are approached by older Korean men. These men ask my friends where they're from, and they all reply with "Canada" or wherever they're from. Then, the men look at me directly and say,"You Russia," without even asking me first. Once, that even happened to me three times in one day.

It is true that I'm a female with blonde hair and blue eyes, but why would you assume that ALL people with a similar appearance are Russians? I just don't get it. I don't mind it anymore, but it's still quite a shock to me how often it happens.

A poster here met her first boyfriend because he thought she was a Russian hooker. She sussed it out when he tried to pay her in the morning.
