As you may know, the constitutional court upheld a ruling, meaning we may vote in the upcoming election. This taken from the South African embassy's website:

Quote:

All registered South African Citizens abroad can vote.

What to do

First step is to make sure you are registered. Only persons who are registered will be eligible to vote. (No new registrations will take place.)

To check if you are registered visit www.elections.org.za and go to Am I registered and type in your identity number on-line. (Only people with bar-coded Identification Document are qualified.)

If you are registered, you need to notify the IEC of your intention to vote by 27 March 2009.

To notify the IEC, registered voters are required to complete a VEC 10 form and return it to the IEC by 27 March 2009. To obtain a VEC 10 form and IEC contact details, please refer to www.elections.org.za and go to special votes.

Voting outside of SA for Elections 2009 will occur on 15 April 2009 (and not on 22 April 2009) at South African Diplomatic and Consular missions abroad. Once your notification to vote outside of South Africa is approved by the IEC, you are required to present both your bar-coded South African citizenship identity document (or valid temporary identity certificate) and your (South African) passport to a South African Diplomatic and Consular mission on 15 April 2009. In this regard, a citizen registered to vote outside the Republic will present both their bar-coded South African citizenship identity document (or valid temporary identity certificate) as well as their South African passport when voting.

Will you be voting?

Personally, I won't as I don't have my ID book with me, but would have been nice to take the day of on Wednesday and make my mark Wink

I won't be voting. I also don't have my ID and I'm not willing to travel to the embassy in Seoul to vote (too expensive), so I'm just wishing everyone running against Jacob Zuma luck.

Isn't voting in South Africa a bit like trying to resuscitate Pope John Paul II? (i.e. absolutely no hope)

It's pretty shocking that Zuma is going to get to power, but then again, nothing shocks me when it comes to African governments.

He sings a mean ditty !! Translated "Get me my machine gun" is quite catchy. . Zuma is charismatic and wily and what could be worse than the stolid Mbeki?

In any case, voting against the monolithic ANC is like farting against thunder and just serves to rubberstamp an illusion of democracy.
