Hi. I'm down to choosing between the English Time and Let's Go! text series for my after school elementary classes grades 1-6. I don't have the books to peruse, but I have been looking at the sample syllabi provided on the website. Correct me if I'm wrong, but it seems that general levels of the English Time books are lower than Let's Go! I teach in a small rural school, and, of course, the students' levels are pretty low for the most part. So, the lower the better.. So my question is for those of you out there familiar with these texts.. Which would you recommend for my (lower level) students.. English Time, or Let's Go!? Which has worked more favorably for you?

I always start with Lets Go and then move into the same number book of English Time. So, Lets Go 1 > ET 1, LG2>ET2....If your using the workbooks the ET workbooks are more difficult than LG.

If you have to pick one I'd go with ET.

your post says that you live in a small town, they should at least have a book store, and most korean bookstores have an esl area. Also try asking some of your teachers at school both those series are very common over here.

I would recommend looking at the books before buying as having a level appropriate book makes teaching a breeze (I know it's the craftsman not the tools but having good tools makes life easier)

doesn't ET have more phonics?

Let's Go is more of a workbook style - and yes, it does require a higher level, even the lower ones.

Have u thought about English Land????
I use them for my after school program classes and highly recommend them especially for lower level classes.

I agree with the poster who said that LG crams far too much vocabulary in to their books; I think book one has over 200 words.

I use English Land as an introduction to a level, then English Time/Superkids as the second book at the same level. The best thing about English Land are the songs, which I often hear my students singing after class. Plus, I really like the open nature of the books, and they have very good teacher books.

Also, one thing I dont like about either ET or LG is that they become very difficult around book 5-6.

I think the problem with both these series is that level 1 is meant to be preceeded by an easier introductory level series.

With LG, there is a new phonics book and some other things,

With ET, there is a 3 level course called Magic Time.

Hey thanks for the kind responses.. It seems that the English Time series would be best for my kids.. They are all low, so I'm thinking of using Magic Time (intro to ET) 1 & 2 for my 1st & 2nd graders, and ET 1-4 for grades 3-6. I'm sure that the ET 5 & 6 level books would be well beyond my kids here... even at the end of the year!
