I've been having a hell of a time trying to track down a voltage converter for my US Xbox360 since I arrived this week. I followed the advice about checking out E-mart, but I couldn't find the damn place in Guro, and the ones at Sindorim and Yongsan were out of stock. I would have explored Yongsan some more but I was pretty beat by then.
My question is, does anyone know an exact location of a store in Yongsan that stocks these stupid things? I really don't want to go on another epic quest and leave empty handed.
(Seriously, there should be a sticky for this topic in the FAQ section) |

I checked both Emart and Yongsan....this is what I found
At Emart you are going to pay about 50,000-65,000 won for those large box converters that can go back and forth btw Korean and US voltages. It's fairly heavy and I think it can hold something like 1000 volts. It's not on the shelf you have to ask the sales people and they go scrambling around for like 20 minutes trying to find them in the back (there were two options available when I went...both the same size, weight, and range of cost the only difference was the brand). They have them but they keep them in the back for some reason...at least that was the case with me.
In Yongsan right when you leave the station there is a large digital complex mall and on the first floor you can find an information desk by the escalators. They speak English and if you ask the lady where you can find a converter she'll point you to a small store booth on the first floor near the elevators. There was an old couple there who sell you smaller converters but these don't go back and forth with the voltages. There are two options US to Korea or Korea to US voltage. They are about 13,000 won and I bought one of these about two weeks ago.
When you go asking non English speakers you can ask for, (컨버터)"kun buh tuh" or (변환기) "byun hwan gi" hope this helps! |

After following Mandytex's advice, I was able to get one of those huge box converters on the 3rd floor of Yongsan for 41,000. So thanks a ton for that.
Also, I found out the hard way that those small converters that cost around 5,000 - 10,000 cannot handle an Xbox360. The little thing pretty much exploded after 5 minutes... Oops! |
