So the apt. complex hired some people for bug control. I wonder what they paid. We haven't had a problem with anything but Indian rice moths, which where here when we came. They weren't going away, and seemed to be getting worse. We'd kill about 10 a day.
Just our luck, we read a notice on the wall that a company had been hired to spray the whole building for bugs. We called the main office, who gave the bug company our number. We told them about the problem, and they said they'd handle it with some special treatments.
Today, the lady came, ran around to every drain in the apartment and sprayed a little squirt (took 30 seconds for the entire house -- probably 20 of which was spent walking across the floor) and she demands a signature. I did my best to explain our problem, pointed to where the moths were coming from, and she handed me the sprayer to shoot a squirt in there (she was a 4-foot high grandmother). She then asked for a signature.
Now I've hired roach professionals in the USA before, and one old chap spent a good 20 minutes in my place spraying thoroughly everywhere. He took another 10 minutes to chat about what he was using, how it worked, and what to do about them. It was obvious, based on what I had learned in the past, that the lady was only spraying for roaches. That's just fine -- I'm happy our apartment building is doing it -- but shooting a few squirts of poison into a drain isn't exactly what I'd call a very thorough job. Heck, as soon as I use those drains, the poison will be washed away.
Explaining the problem with moths was a little technical, so I called my wife, which the lady wasn't thrilled with waiting for. The lady told her there was nothing she could do about the moths, just remove the food source, and please sign because she was in a hurry and had more apartments to do.
So much for the "special" treatment!
Oh well. The moths have been going away on their own this past week. We determined that the previous people had some old rice or something, and they were still alive because they were eating some extra wallpaper glue off of the moulding from our new wallpaper installation. I've spent a lot of time cleaning that off, but it seems to be the moths food source, and we're down to seeing 1 or 2 a day now. |

They don't spray all that stinky chemical everywhere anymore, they just put small amounts of bait which takes like 10 to 20 seconds in your apartment. I too remember years ago in the USA how we'd get all that stinky chemical and then we'd set off those bomb can sprays and leave the house for a 3 day camping trip. Them roaches were always an awful infestation in our old house.
Those moths can come out of old rice or flour.
Why they put it in your drains is beyond me as they'd normall put the bait in places like a nook or cranny between a stove and cabinet or the backside of your top cabinet. |

I would never live in a place with bugs. Period.
That said, it is common for flying animals to come up the drains. It's been recommended to me to pour 1/2 bottle of bleach down the drains monthly. |

| I've been seeing black wasps. 2 weeks ago it was dam near freezing cold and they were already starting to come out where you see one alive, but barely moving. 2 nights ago when it was nice and warm, one went buzzing around my light. Bugs here start up at 33 F or about 1 C. Guess they're cold climate buggers. |
