|
|
I've just been informed that I (and every other foreigner in my city) must work Fridays at an English Village. Not every Friday, but some.
Is anybody else doing the same?
Our Village is staffed by people in the TALK program.
WTF? Why are we being taken out of our regular schools to go and be dancing monkeys?
I want a transfer.
PS - It really buggers the class curriculum. The Friday class will fall behind, and I don't intend to have extra makeup classes. |

I'd tell them 'no' and they can fire me of they don't like it. Shit, can you imagine some of the little monsters you'd have to deal with who've been taught by waegooks who don't have a clue or don't care? Just think of some of the idiot posters you've seen on this board - it's their kids who'd be coming to camp for you to teach.
Making my 'I only work at MY school' policy very well known to everyone has served me very well over the years. |

I haven't heard of this. And I'm with YBS on this one. The resignation paper would be on the principal's desk within the next few minutes. |

BTW poet13, what does your contract say about this? Any relevant parts? And what city are you in if you don't mind my asking...just so I can avoid it in future. |

I said "No" to being sent to a second, real school (they didn't fire me).
Tell them - "No... I'm a teacher, not an edutainer." |

I'm in Epik,
But no, I haven't been informed of this, it's possible the teachers just didn't inform me. |

I could quit, but then it would be a big financial hit to deal with a family of four....even assuming they would be allowed to stay in the country while I got a new job squared away.
I'm six months into this contract, and if I were to resign today, would leave with 7 months...only to forfeit my completion pay.
My contract has one of those all-inclusive clauses that says they can bend me over anywhere they want.
I'm so damned annoyed right now. Just thought I would say so.
I've talked a little bit to my wife about moving after this contract, and I think this is probably enough for me.
Anyone out there know of a good job in the country paying 2.5 where I can have lots of family time? |

Can't really do much because in most if not all of the contracts there is a clause that states that you have to work in ANY kind of POE facility which includes Schools, Centers, Education Offices etc.... If its an apporved POE site, than I'd say your screwed, unless you make a stand and they back down. |

Having dependents really sucks in this respect, but then think, 50% of the folks back home are sticking at jobs they don't like for the same reason. My dad went into a job he didn't like very much for decades. |

Actually that could be fun. Wear a suit and tie and stand up at the front and lecture out of a book while the kids tear around the classroom. See how long you last at that. |

Or be the ultimate Korean business man drunk with the room salon girl in your arms and your tie wrapped around your head doing Poketang-ju(Boilermaker) Whisky beer shots. |

I agree with this. If they tell you to be more exciting, suck on your teeth, frown thoughtfully, mutter "Aigo" under your breath and then say "I think it is not possible." |

Yeah, that would be tempting, but I can't. No matter how much I hate the situation, I'm still a professional. I can however, suck my teeth and mutter Aigo every time I see the Office of Education people outside of work...which is fairly often. |

You can still be professional and boring. Show up in suit. In that way they won't make you dance around and sing. One reason why kiddie Hogwans don't want you to wear a suit is because they want you to dance around like a clown.
Show up with a copy of Side by Side and insist they let you use a photocopier to make enough copies for each student. Then force all the students to sit in their seats and do pairwork. For the activities.
See how long you last doing that. |
