Ask YBM. There's most likely a penalty clause in the lease in case it's broken early. I would think it wouldn't cost much, or anything, if the apartment/building owners find someone to take over the apartment.

I had a nasty rejection letter from dr hilty at ybm. she said " we are not interested in your application"

This was after she originally said last year that I did not have the necessary documents in time for a job she needed to fill. I reapplied and got no response so emailed ybm a few times to see if they had received it and I got that statement from her this week.

so I told her if she treats teachers like that and has a phd, she is a b***h and basically told her to go f*** herself.

Yeah that's the key, "if the owners find someone to take over the apartment". OP is hosed if they don't, he would still have to pay for it.

Quite the dilema (sic)!

If you want to break a contract in order to take a new job, then you should be willing to shoulder the consequences.

Look at some posts on this forum about YBM, not a good company. I worked at the Daegu branch and quit with a months notice after five months. I tried to be up front and honest with these people even when they treated me like shit. They kept two months rent promising to give it back when the apartment was rented, of course even though it was rented right away they kept the money. I suppose it depends on how much a part of the human race your directors are, but I wouldn't trust these guys. If I had it to over again, I would have just left and got my new visa, screw them. I tried to be honest with dishonest people, expensive lesson. Old timers say YBM stands for your blood money, good luck.

Even if they have someone to rent your apartment they will likely lie and say otherwise to get your money. In Korea, being honest will most likely get u screwed over. They totally lie about everything in business here...which is what YBM is.... so it's the norm or so it seems. I wouldn't feel bad about being dishonest with them.

Dr. Hilda. Born on the island of Lesbos.

Their offer was stupid and so is their contract.

SLP=Slave Labor Program.

YBM=Your Blood Money.

As hakwons go, these definitions (as complied by a majority of old-timers tend to be fairly accurate.

There are good locations out there, but they tend to be few and far in between.
