Soviet Man, you do know that tourists from the DPRK film South Korea all the time, right?

It is almost certain that the filming done by those detained was (a) deliberate and (b) without approval.

In fact it is quite probable that these people were at some level, involved in either espionage itself or in a deliberate attempt at portraying the DPRK in a negative light. That was their agenda.

Engaging in deceptive and misleading conduct in the DPRK is, rightly, punishable by death.

Yes, people rarely accidentally film. Just like when tours of DPRK citizens tour Panmunjom, they purposely take pictures and film the Southern side.

I have yet to hear of an incident where South Korean soldiers ran over and dragged them into the South.

As for your assertion to espionage - got proof?

Also, it is very unclear that they were in the DPRK. Are you sure that they were?

How many North Korean tourists are in South Korea?

Actually, a number of North korean tourists have come to the South - for sporting games and such. As well, they regularly tour the Northern Side of Panmunjom (and enter the armistice building).

That aside, where in my post did I mention about North Koreans coming to the South? I said FILMING THE SOUTH.

Soviet man: If you love the DPRK so much, why don't you go live there? Or do you like your freedoms a little too much?

They may or may not have been spies. They could have been a lot of things. I'm not about to take the DPRK's word on anything and the USA isn't going to be honest about its spying activities either for obvious reasons.

Do you think that this 'negative light' has something to do with the fact that this regime is one of the most abhorrent in the world? Portraying them in a negative light is as easy as shooting fish in a barrel.

Having said all this, if they'd crossed over to the North Korean side then they're fair game. Especially since no one ever goes there for jobs or opportunity. But we simply have no evidence of what they were doing. All we are doing is showcasing our assumptions.

Oh my, did I hurt your feelings? If memory serves, it's your manners that are lacking. You made a mistake, and I asked you to please correct it. Either way, the quote stands; I never talked about North Koreans in South Korea - read the post when you're quoting it.

I find it interesting that most Koreans have a US passport for convenience. I mean seriously, I have yet to meet a Korean Nationalized US Citizen who calls themselves a Red, White, and Blue US loving citizen.

As an American citizen, I am tired of foreign nationals who have the privilege of US citizenship only to piss on it and never live in the USA.

Guess you are only "an American citizen" when you get your sorry butt in trouble,eh?

I actually read one is Chinese-America and journalist Lisa Ling's sister.

No, you didn't hurt my feelings. It is your memory that is quite lacking. You showed your behind in that thread in addition to showing your lack of comprehension of a very common English word, even when I explained its use to you politely.

All I did was ask a question this time as I thought it was kind of odd to see the terms "North Korean tourists" and "filming South Korea" together. If you reallly did have some manners, you could've elaborated politely. You did not elaborate politely. See if you can connect those two dots.

Be happy, though, Troll. I will never read another one of your posts again nor will I respond to one.

Now if you could just promise that to a few more posters here, we'd all be the happier for it.

Bye. Laughing

Washington trying to free U.S. reporters detained in N. Korea: envoy

SEOUL, March 20 (Yonhap) -- Details on the condition of two U.S. journalists who have been detained since earlier this week in North Korea are still unclear, the U.S. ambassador to South Korea said Friday, amid Washington's efforts to secure their release.

"We are still trying to get a sense of exactly what the situation is and what happened," Amb. Kathleen Stephens told reporters after a luncheon meeting with retired South Korean diplomats in Seoul.

Stephens was discussing a report that two reporters from Current TV, an American Internet outlet, were taken by North Korean soldiers along the Tumen River on the Chinese side of the border while filming the North Korean side.

"Certainly for the U.S government, there is no higher priority than securing the welfare and the whereabouts of U.S. citizens when they are abroad."

N Korea confirms reporters held

North Korea has confirmed the arrest of two female US journalists, saying they were detained for illegally entering North Korean territory.

The official Central News Agency said the case of the two women, arrested on Tuesday near the China-North Korea border, was under investigation.

A Chinese interpreter accompanying the two journalists was also arrested.

Chun Ki-won, a Christian clergyman in Seoul who helped arrange the journalists' trip, has said they went to the area to report on North Korean refugees in north-eastern China.

There have been conflicting reports about where the women were detained. South Korean reports have suggested they were on Chinese territory.

But North Korea's official Central News Agency said the journalists were detained on Tuesday "while illegally intruding into the territory of the DPRK [North Korea]".

hmmm.. reminds me of their story about the 'woman who ran away when told to stop'

Well, if we're going to make claims with no evidence to back it up, then i'll assert that the journalists didn't have to have done anything wrong for the Norks to come arrest them. I suspect that the journalists were taken merely for provocation and to give the Norks even more leverage ahead of their planned satellite launch. KJI, for all that people think that he's just some crazy tin-pot dictator, is very, very good at getting what he wants. If you think of North Korea as a bully (a pretty apt description i believe) I can see this action as basically N. Korea daring the international community to do something.

I hear ya, bruddah. But we've got just as many Mexicans who feel the same way. Now the mayor of Sonora in Mexico are--get this--complaining to Phoenix that too many illegals are being sent back and that the local economy can't handle them. Breaks my heart. Maybe if they put a stop to rampant corruption, they could prosper.

Meanwhile the poor, downtrodden illegals make money, pay no taxes, and go around waving Mexican flags on American streets as they protest for better benefits. The same is never tolerated in Mexico with its neighbors.

Same with Muslims in Europe. These failed Third World states are taking advantage of Western democracies and we are suffering for it.

The future of Western Civilization looks grim indeed.

China and the DPRK share a border, a river, in some parts it is narrow enough to basically walk over.

A lot of tourists do unwise things there, like try and go to the other side to take pictures.

If they were actually in the border area and were doing something like filming without official permission, of course they will run into trouble.

They have only themselves to blame.

Right, because victims of kidnapping should always be blamed. Rolling Eyes

I never realized that the one is Lisa Ling's sister. Lisa went into NK a couple years ago and put out a documentary on it. She went in saying she was part of a medical team. She filmed with concealed cameras.

Maybe NK wants some payback here.

lets briefly examine the world according to the Korean media..

1) A korean-American esl teacher abuses some female students at an english camp: he is presented as "American".

2) An American football star who happened to have a Korean mother wins player of the year: He is presented as "Korean".

3) A korean-American journalist, Euna Lee gets into hot water and is arrested by the norks: She is "an American".
