Interesting update folks....
Seems that if one has a car that is more than 10 years old, one can get a good sum of money; a good deal more than what one could get through a private sale.
My wife has found a source to get 800,000 won for my car; that is the same price as I paid 5 years a go and that price lets me keep the stereo.
Now, I don't have all the details; maybe not enough to even warrant a post here, but I do want to let those interested in the car that things are on hold for the time being.
I hope those I have spoken with understand that simple economics are telling me to get double what I thought I would for my car, and as I said, the added bonus of being able to keep my stereo.
My apologies to the interested parties and to those reading this thread, I'm sure this is an interesting development. It may explain why some people are so hot to buy old cars in this country; buy it for 400,000, turn it over for 800,000 without doing a thing; not even a wash.
Anyways, I will post back when I find out exactly what is involved in all of this.
My apologies once again to those that I have had dealings with. |

That's alright, by following probabilities we learn that you had a fluke, I shall find a brand new Nissan Cube for 1 million won, and enjoy life as I know it, as unrealistic as i"m being, I still like to dance, dance in the rain.

No fluke wes. Seems it's a government buy-back program; a "we want you to buy a new car" incentive. |

Just a note guys, I received an email from a gentleman calling himself
| Code: |
| NWOHA NDUBUISI MOSES |
He told me he was going to find me a car in my price range.
Cool Cool, then he told me had had bought the car for me,
Now I'm thinking WTF WTF WTF, I didn't ask you to BUY a car for me,
I had replied initially that I'd be interested in what he had to offer.
Now He sends me a picture of a car, and the next few hours he sends me
information on the car. Rather basic information, that would be found on the outside of the car, he neglects to inform me of mileage, year model, and you know the basics engine size etc etc.
Well I do a little research, and it turns out he's a scammer, his name is nigerian, oddly enough, a little deeper research points me towards his email, which in and of itself is rather normal, until you remove the @xxxx.com from it, and suddenly he's almost everywhere on certain boards, such as craigslist and such, attempting to scam people so heads up. If anyone you meet is named
| Code: |
| NWOHA NDUBUISI MOSES |
And he offers to sell you a car. Beware.

This thread says "cheap". 1.6 million for a ten year old car is far from cheap. |

The little cars hold their value quite good here. We bought a '99 Matiz 2 years ago for over 2M, and will be looking to get about 1.6M for it soon. May even ask for more as it's only got 60K on the clock.
About 14-15km to the litre, or 60+mpg (UK gallon) and half-price tolls and parking fees make such cars a very attractive buy.
We bought it as there was no parking space at our previous villa for a 4x4. Small cars are easy to park on a busy street!
The government pays scrap fee's to get old or high-polluting vehicles of the streets. Such cars are also liable to increased tax charges while you have them.
Looking to trade soon to get an automatic soon for my wife to drive, and more space in the back for the child seat. |

Let it be known :
I have purchased a car.
It is rather easy to do so.
Just make sure you get there so that you can have them take you to the immigration office to get a certificate of immigration.

| Demophobe, any info(links etc.) on the car re-sell program? I've got a 20 year old beater that runs perfectly but need to sell in a few months. If I could get more than 200,000-300,000 I would be thrilled. |

Yep..you started the thread and let it be known that you are a cheap "twit". I still want to know what you are talking about with your "certificate of immigration" nonsense. Congratulations on figuring out how to buy a car Corky .

You can buy a car without an interpreter or anyone there to sign the documents. It's easier here than in the US. But you need documentation concerning your Visa status from the Immigration department now. It's changed, used to you didn't need them, but now you do.
That's all.

No, you don't...at least, not anything more than showing your ARC. I just bought a car last week and I did not need to obtain nor submit any documentation from the immigration office in the course of licensing, registering, or insuring my car.
Not sure what happened with you, or why, unless you don't have the ARC yet. But I don't know how your foreigner status would have any impact on the purchase of a car. It's not like you were buying drugs, and from your previous posts it's evident that it was not any big investment where you would need to document heaps of legally-earned income.
Ooooohhhhhh well, it's not like you sacrificed your dignity by posting nonsense about some Nigerian scam or calling someone names for no reason and now it's come back to b!tch-slap you. Ahh, the sweet justice of irony prevails again on Dave's. |

Hardly.
Wasn't nonsense. Someone talking like that is typically a nigerian scammer. There was no bitch slap, I got out with a fairly sweet deal.
Yes you do have to go to immigration. I purchased a car, and two others teachers I work with also have purchased a car. We all had to go to immi to get some official documentation. Now, if you'd teach your nigerian boyfriend how to properly type, that'd probably stop people from thinking he was a scammer, which honestly based on the evidence of post parted posting, I see why I thought so ,and why I still think so evidence prior to or evidently in the contrary.
Please realize that western imperialism is here for a reason.
