Sorry, search function is crap.

My coteacher told me I could pick out books for my 3rd graders since I hate the ones we have. Which ones would you recommend? These kids have a lot of knowledge, they just can't use it, yet. They need to talk, write and just generally express themselves more.

Thanks Very Happy

One of my two 1st grade MS girls classes this year are very, very good. The book I'm supposed to be working from is just far too easy for them, so I've been using some of the activities from English Communication II , which I use with my 1st and 2nd grade HS boys. So far, they're breezing through it. It's not available on Amazon, but it is available in Kyobo bookstores. There's also a book I, although I've not seen it, but if you think book II will be too difficult for them, then try book I instead.

I've also used Picture This 2 as both a kind of last-minute filler and as a CA activity book with my middle schoolers. They seem to enjoy it. It's got these kind of cartoon style, comic-strip dialouges with about 3 or 4 characters which they enjoyed reading. There's also the usual grammar, structure type exercises etc. It's also available from Kyobo. As with the other, I haven't seen book 1.

If both of the above are no good for you, then maybe see if you can get a copy of either A Conversation Book 1 or A Conversation Book 2. You may find that 1 is too easy and two is too hard, but there's so much in both books, I'm sure you can probably tweak something from each to suit their level.
