Are you American or Canadian? OK, that doesnt really matter.
My point is, now you know how Hollywood and other western media wrap up Chinese or Japanese or (insert some Asian heer). We dont deserve those stupid images, however, I will save me from crying.

got to admit though. the {korean girl?} in the last picture with the great rake
is HOT!!! I might of even done that shoot just to be with her hahahaha
is she korean?? maybe she is russian with bangs to look korean

Good at punching/kicking things

Junkies/Alcoholics

You forogot some stereotypes:
1) Small, and weak
2) tiny "packages"
3) Nerds
4) Spineless
5) Dirty, ie. eat cats
6) Slant eyed
It's not exactly like Westerners portray Asians always in positive light. Give and take, it's not overwhelming biased in either direction for either culture. Many Asian films still view whites as an upper echelon of class. If you look at a lot of Asian films white people tend to be upperclass, money rolling, aristocrats. Sure they are played in negative light (look at jackie chan movies) but there is also the sense in Asia that if you are white, you are good looking. Or at least better looking in some way.
I've seen many films and medias from both countries and the commonality is that the outside "race" is portrayed in negative light. Look at movies from the 80's... just about every "bad guy" is an Asian, German, or Russian. It's always the outsiders that are "evil". Usually doing something "inhumane" or "demon like".
It's an instinctual belief that we are good and the other people are bad.
However, I still do think it's terrible how our image is portaryed... especially in Korea. Like the OP says, remember to give a high five (in the face if you can) for the foreigners that potray us in negative light.
The other day I caught a glimpse of some Korean movie about how a white doctor was telling a Koren doctor to pour arsenic down a drain (which is obviously a no-no). The reasoning escapes me, but I'm left with the overall impression that the "evil" doctor being white doesn't enchance the story at all so.... wtf was the point of having him white?
Thanks to film and media, the demonizing of outside cultures and colors is still prevelant. |

You can find dog soup restaurants all over Korea.
6) Slant eyed - You seem to be confused here. Asians DO have differently shaped/sized eyes than other ethnicities. I've yet to meet an Asian who doesn't freely admit this. Merely stating this fact is not hateful or "stereotyping"... it's when you mock people for it that it becomes a problem. Either way, it's not stereotyping. Should I get angry when someone points out my skin is a lighter tone than most other ethnicities?

Too many to name.
The recent one is <south park> I watched, which I dont really complain though cuz they made fun of everybody.
Some movies portray Chinese as they still wear the clothes from Qing dynasty in 21 century, I wonder why they dont dress them with more antient style, e.g. from neolithic age

1) One can be spineless and one can weak, they are different.
Spineless means not standing up for what you believe in.
Weak is not strong in the physical sense. I can be physically weak yet I can have a spine. Or I can be strong but be spineless.
Also, a stereotype is a stereotype whether good or bad. Ergo the defintion of racism encompasses that one race is inherently better than another to encompass both aspects. Not saying that one is racist for believing stereotypes, but yes, good or bad ones still could make someone a racist. (not saying that you are, or even that beliving stereoptypes make you one)
4) You're right they shouldn't be together. But the stereotype of other people exists that Chinese are dirty because they eat domestic cats. It doesn't make sense, but it's what some westerners believe. Jokes about a resturant picking up an alley cat and chopping it up in their resturant to serve. It's the stereoptype.
6) Yes it is a physical characteristic, but it's a stereoptype that has a negative potrayle and isn't true for all Asians. However, I wouldn't akin it so strongly as skin color, where it's a blatant difference. Slant eyes is subjective and not all Asians have them. Whereas all people of African ethnicity is black. Also, it's negatively potrayed... or annoyingly so by little kids. I've seen kids tease other ones calling them ching chong then taking their eyeslids and slanting them out. |

| I stayed in Beijing with a Korean friend and she would often accuse the Chinese of being cat-eaters. I think it's a Chinese thing, not a Pan-asian thing. |

Thanks for posting those pics Brian...I pretty much spit coffee all over my desk when I saw them. I definitely know and consider myself friendly with one of them. He's a thoroughly decent guy, but definitely no actor, he's here on an E-2 teaching (possible visa violation issue here I'd guess) which does bring up an interesting point: what's going to happen if one of his students sees this show?
And last I heard he was trying to get a University job...surely a good chunk of his students will have seen this?
This totally made my day...knowing that he did this just makes me so so happy. And next time I see him I'm going to round house kick him in the junk for making us all look bad. |

The scene in that film is loosely based on a real event I believe.
However in the film the chemicals spawn a hideous mutant which the director admits is a metaphor for American actions in SK.
Make of it what you will. |

Oh and he's definitely Migukian, unlike those awesome Eastern Bloc "English Teachers" from Damages. So I guess one can conclude Sexy Mong Returns cares more about versimilitude than Damages.
That's a sentence I never expected to write. What an odd bunch of words to string together. |
