|

In case there are people out there wondering where the hell to find some mexican food, i'd like to share my experience with "On the Border" located near the subway stop at Sinchon.
Everyone has their own idea of "authentic", and considering we are in Korea, i thought it was overall a good experiance. The staff were all Korean, but they made small attempts to speak Spanish.. "hola" "como esta?" etc
Sat down at a booth with typical mexican restaurant decor. The server brought chips and salsa that were delicious and i ordered a margarita on the rocks. Ordered queso dip as an appetizer and chicken enchiladas for the meal. So far, so good. They refilled the chips on que, and margaritas were strong (to my liking).
The enchiladas had a bit of an odd sauce on it. I'm accustomed to a red sauce(tomato based) with a thick coating of cheese. Instead, i got a white/clear sauce with onions in it. It wasn't bad, just not what i expected. Nevertheless, i devoured it along with 3 more margaritas and a Dos Equis.
My bill was around 46,000 Won. Kind of expensive, but i got my mexican fill and had a nice little buzz when i left. I'd recommend it, although not the best i've ever had. Defintely will appetize your mexican craving.
Sorry for the wall of text, my class was cancelled due to the WBC
*edit* I always spell "experiance" wrong |

Yup...I'm there at least once a month. It's a lot more "Tex/Mex" than a lot of people might be used to, but for those of us who were brought up on Chi-Chi's, Carlos Murphy's, and Chili's it'll hit the spot every time.
It is expensive, but you get huge portions, all the fresh tortilla chips and salsa you can eat, and the best frozen margaritas in Korea. If you're willing to drop the dime, it's worth it. |

What's the price on margaritas there. Do they also have guacamole as well? |

Think the "jumbo" margarita (with regular tequila..not top shelf) was 10 or 12,000.
Yes, there was guacamole on my queso dip.. |

If you order the "Guacamole Live!" they will prepare guacamole at your table...fresh as it gets. Sadly, they don't use limes but it still rocks.
Basic/flavored margaritas are around 8,000 for a large "schooner" and can be upgraded with Patron, Grand Marinier, etc. for a few extra bucks. Perfect consistency, and they do pack a punch. |

Thanks. I am hitting that place on the weekend.
Another suggestion if you want a quick taqueria style fix, Choi's Taco's is awesome and cheap. |

Does this mean there are 2? 'Cause I'm pretty sure the one I went to was in COEX.

Must be a different OTB 'cause we definitely got limes at the COEX location. |

last time I was there I asked for a margarita made with cuervo and you'd have thought I'd asked for sushi
oh the whining and moaning and heartbreak sobbing about why they couldn't make a margarita with jose cuervo
I swear Ks are the biggest crybabies in the entire world
I say that because virtually every time I've ever asked for a particular drink to be made a specific way (not an unusual request in any other country, mind you) the sobbing begins as to why it simply can't be done.
and the absolutely WORST bartenders!!!
fyi, apparently they don't put jose in their margaritas but something else - whatever |

Try asking for a martini in a bar - even an American bar off-post...go on, try it.
It's a glass of vodka with olives. They don't import vermouth.
and 46,000W for On The Border? Imagine what you could do with a 46kW... A whole bottle of Cuervo, some mix, and a grocery bag full of Taco Bell. I'd shoot a man for Taco Bell right now. |

You had 4 margaritas, a dos equis beer and an appetizer and main for 46,000won? Sounds kind of cheap rather than kind of expensive.. |

They've got one on Yongsan, a Taco Bell that is. I've got confirmation from a bunch of army skate park rats I ran into at the park the other day. |

You're straphanging at the wrong bars. I can think of at least a dozen bars in 4 or 5 neighborhoods that serve decent martinis and/or vodka martinis. |
