Ok, so I'm looking at getting an English/British bulldog in the next few months. As I don't read Korean very well, was wondering if anybody could direct me to some websites/stores. I know they're available here, but was wondering if anybody out that has one that they got while in Korea. If you did, how much were they? Where did you get them? What size apartment do you have? Thanks for the help.

About 3 years ago we were looking for a Bulldog. We got offered a few French Bulldogs for I think 700,00 and offered 1 proper British Bulldog for 1.3mill!!! They were willing to negotiate a bit but we setttled on our pug for just under 300,00.
This was from the petshop area in Cheongu, Seoul.

So they are here but are not cheap. I'm saving for when our pug goes to the big farm so I can get a British Bulldog.

I am actually buying a victorian bulldog next week, it has took me a while to find a great dog so i know how you feel, near myong dong on the light blue line i believe its called chungoru, or somethign like that,, the station beside myong dong.

They have english bulldogs as well, negotiate though, they wanted me to pay 1.2 mil and i got them to 8 mil

Why don't you go to a shelter. There are 100's of 1,000's of dogs needing homes. We recently had an English bulldog at the shelter in Asan.

The area where all the pet stores are is actually 충무로 on the orange line. It's two stops south of Chongo 3 Ga. There is a whole street full of pet shops. I bought a Yorkie 4 years a go and many Koreans warned me not to buy a dog from that area. I don't think they really care for the dogs too well and I hear a lot of them end up dying or having diseases. I got my Yorkie from a person whose Yorkie had babies, so they weren't in it for "money." Anyway, good luck.

I'm definately willing to get a rescue dog. I do have my heart set on an English Bulldog, so if I could find one at a shelter, I would actually prefer that. (I'm also interested in Bull Terriers, Boston Terriers or French Bulldogs as well).

Chungmuro is exactly like people described it, totally unreliable...Sellers smoke in stores full of tiny puppies, coming from puppy mills...But I got a cat from there last year,and it got sick .So I called the tourist complaint center ,they told me that there is a contract which exists in Korean and English :they sent it to me through e-mail .I brought back the cat to the store and asked them to take care of it until it was healthy again,which they did.
So if anyone decides to get an animal from that area ,I strongly recommend to get that contract before , and show it to the vendor...Although he probably will not be interested in selling you a dog anymore ...
Getting a pet from a shelter is very nice,but working on the regulations which do exist in Korea is also a very good way to reduce the number of puppy mills.Since a lot of the animals ending up in shelters in Korea are coming from pet stores.

Cool. I'm going to check out the site. Does anybody else have any info on some of the shelters? I'd really like to rescue a dog, but my number one choice for a dog is an English Bulldog.

Just to add my two cents... I have a dog that I walk regularly at Namsan. Over the last few years, I have met three owners who bought dogs from Chungmuro and regretted it. The dogs were weak, had bad hips, or constant diarrhea. One died after many trips to the vet. Another the owners had hip surgery performed on, which was expensive.

My dog was free and is mostly the two breeds I liked, just mixed together!

Thanks Bramble. I actually saw the dog yesterday and have been in contact with her owners to see what we can work out. I'm still interested in finding out about any more Bulldogs that come up for adoption though.

Try to check out the shelter if you can...
I bet where ever you end up getting a dog, it hasn't been treated well. Animal welfare doesnt seem like a top priority in Korea...

But, if you must, I did see some strange breeds in a box at the Dongdaemun market. I swear one of them was a Himalyan Malamute...it's paws were the size of coffee mugs.

one more thing...how do you people find time to have a pet? I'm not saying having pets is bad, cuz I'd love to have one, but I'm not home enough...
