Anyone else notice the major decrease in PT jobs over the last week?

Is there something going on that I don't know about. I know the economy is in the shits but it seems like the number of PT's dropped off so quickly.

I assume you are talking about worknplay?

They've recently started charging for ads, so those guys who advertise the same PT job everyday for a month obviously aren't going to be advertising as much (if at all).

There has been a huge decrease in the advertisement of part-time jobs.

The rumor is that Work n Play is charging too much money for the recruiters to advertise. Anybody have a line on which site the recruiters have moved to?

English Spectrum isn't any better.

Worknplay is now charging 55,000 won to post a job. Outrageous considering many of the jobs are just little part timers. I think they shot themselves in the foot. The little money that will trickle in from this wont matter once their website becomes irrelevant. Why dont job posters start using Craigslist? They need to learn about this.

Worknplay charging recruiters who pimp money of your work is just smart business. At least Worknplay are providing a service. I don't consider samgyopsal, soju and a visit to the room salon a service worthy of taking 60%.

I doubt most Koreans have even heard of Craigslist, but the idea is a good one. I also imagine potential teachers would rarely think to look at Craigslist for a teaching job in Korea.

At 5-10 bucks a pop its good business. At 55,000 won its foolish and will probably ultimately hurt their business.

I think English spectrum used to be free but went the same way of worknplay in terms of charging so recruiters rarely used them from that point on.

Saying that there's seems to a few more jobs posted on there than normal ....I guess they charge less than worknplay(?)

Methinks you are speculating to arrive at the conclusion you assume is true. WnP got ES's business after a major scandal caused by one creepy poster on ES. They never recovered. I believe there is an anti-ES group in the ROK (the objective of which I cannot recall right now).

Actually, there are quite a few people posting jobs on English Spectrum. A few overly-nationalistic foreigner-haters might like to believe otherwise, but it's true. The site is far from dead.

If you don't believe it, then just go there. Naturally, people will gravitate toward another place. Maybe I should make a job site.

I'm starting to get spam e-mails from recruiters for jobs.

Back in the day, English Spectrum used to get 30-50 job postings a day. Then for whatever reason that ended abruptly into just a few a day. Worknplay took over. Now from this week Worknplay has just a few postings. Get the word out to Koreans that hire: CRAIGSLIST.

True a lot of jobs did fall off since they started charging recruiters to post.. but they are laughing now. I saw about 10 posts for march 24 and at 55,000 won a pop thats over 500,000 won.. thats adds up to a lot. and um sure it doesnt take a whole lot of staff to run that site.

question is.. where did all the recruiters migrate to? must be posting somewhere.. englishspectrum doesnt have a lot.. some but not the 30-40 posts i saw on worknplay.

The 'quite a few people' is a recent thing and I'll assume that it's due to WnP's cost. The point is, as Beej mentions, their business went down substantially (I'd guess at least 80% less job posts) for the last 3 to 4 years. This business swung WnP's way and perhaps some business is swinging back. It's not difficult to keep a website up and going, unlike the old brick and mortar businesses.

If you don't believe it, then just go there. Naturally, people will gravitate toward another place. Maybe I should make a job site.

WnP's pricing strategy will make people want to find the cheapest place possible. Maybe you should make a site, but you'd need to jump on it quick. When ES was shut down for some time, they still had relatively loyal clients going back. But once the inertia fell to WnP (with delays in ES re-establishing themselves and WnP gaining their clientele) they've been hangers-on since. Now Wnp has opened up the opportunity.

I'm starting to get spam e-mails from recruiters for jobs.
