It took only ten hours into the lunar new year for something good to happen.

My old director's wife brought me a tray full of various hot, warm and cool Korean food.

How's your lunar year starting out in Korea?

My great start is one of the rewards of having in the past focused on establishing a good relationship with the director rather than nitpicking about being uninformed about changes or getting upset about being paid later than expected (I just get a small advance to carry me over).

I have a new director now but the old director still treats me like part of the family. To all the newbies out there I say stay positive and Very Happy through everything (at least NOT Crying or Very sad or Mad ). As they say back home: Don't sweat the small things and focus on the big picture. (Did I say that? Sorry, but cliches remind me of home.)

Happy new lunar year

I tore my contanct lense this morning; yes, it's a good thing. Because ? I use disposables and wear them for months, literally Months and Months without cleaning them and replace them only when I tear them ... so my eyes have crystal clear lenses today ...

So far so good. My Lunar New Year is actually beginning a new phase of my life here in Korea.

By coincidence I finished my contract at my kiddy hogwon in Incheon the day before the Lunar New Year holiday started. It took a bit of weaseling on my part to circumvent my boss' weaseling, but I got paid in full for wages, severance, and airfare. My old boss still resents me for leaving, but I was showered with cards, letters, and presents from my kids on my last day.

I am now unpacking at my new apartment in Seoul, and chilling for a week before I start work my new school (an adult hogwon Cool ). Part of that will be a 4 day vacation/visa run trip to Japan. I'm excited about the new beginning.

Also, my landlady invited me for a wonderful Lunar New Year brunch with her family. I'm off to a good start.

My better half's in Korea for the new year while I'm stuck here working Sad (but I can look forward to lots of jumping and presents from Korea when she returns Very Happy ).

The first bad thing was that I forgot to stock up on groceries before the stores closed, so I'm stuck eating rice and seaweed.

The first good thing is that I got a phone call from a person I wanted to hear from.

The snow here in Gwangju is amazingly beautiful, and the crisp cold air goes along well with the scenery. Wish I ate some Duk-guk soup today, that would really make this day great.
