So I used the search function but I get a big blank white screen whenever I search "phone, cell, cheap, used" or a combination of those, so I'm posting here.
I've been in Korea for almost a month and still no phone yet. I just got my ARC card last week.
First, I'm wondering where to buy a cheap phone. I don't need any of the fancyschmancy things they put on phones nowadays, I just need it to work and sound clear. Used is okay as long as it's in good working condition.
Second, I don't know if I should do pay as you go, prepaid plan, or a monthly phone plan.
I won't be using the phone too much, I just need it to call people when meeting up with them, like "Hello where are you" "I'm at this corner at blah and blah street." And maybe if I need to stay at work later type thing, not too often. I would really like it if incoming calls are free or very cheap, though.
Also, any suggestons of which places to buy cheap phones in Seoul? Thanks |

If it's your first cell phone, I recommend calling the Seoul Global Center at 1330 (just dial the number like that). My friend got one there (through LG Telecom) and I think he paid something like 30,000 or 50,000won for a brand new phone and it came with a cheap monthly plan. I really don't know more about it, but I would go for it if I didn't already have a number with another carrier. Plus, the Global center has an English speaker phone representative so you don't have to worry about having to do it all in Korean elsewhere. |

Hi there, heading to Korea next month for a year. I am a bit worried about the cell phone as I really want one when I get there.
Should I do as you guys have done and called the number to get a Korean phone or should I just pay an additional $20 and keep my AT&T account with a new data plan for international travel? I really love my iphone but I know there are plenty of cool phones in Asia.
Your responses are greatly appreciated.
Thanks. |

I also had difficulty finding a threat that was all about cell phones.
I have a blackberry in the states and I was wondering how much a similar smart phone, that has push e-mail, costs monthly? Also, since I will be there for a year, I plan on buying a new phone. Any ideas on the costs of smart phones in Korea and monthly plans? |
