and I could not agree with him more on this -- on his looking before he leaped re: taking a position on the bonuses; on recognizing this as pointless, populist journalism; and on responding to said pointless, populist journalism accordingly.

Cheers for this, Mr. President.

CNN's 'Ticker' wrote:
President [B.] Obama gave a pretty tough answer to CNN's Ed Henry when asked why he waited days to express outrage on the AIG bonuses.

"It took us a couple of days because I like to know what I'm talking about before I speak," he said.

It seemed to imply the question was impertinent.

"After Ed Henry, he looked like he wanted to go home," conservative talk radio host and CNN Contributor Bill Bennett said.

I don't think it was that bad at all. Certainly not worthy of headlines.

Whether it seems worthy of headlines or not, CNN is expending energy reporting, spinning it...

WASHINGTON -- The most amazing part of the exchange to me is that I didn't go into the East Room intending to ask President Obama about AIG...

CNN Reports

This guy and his apologia ("I did not want to do it! Wolf Blitzer made me do it!") represent all that I disagree with in journalism today: invent sensationalist questions and then pounce.

Why can they not simply ask honest questions on honest issues? Why the need to develop deliberately "provocative questions?" It seems to me that some questions will seem provocative. But others will remain mundane. And lo and behold on somedays they may simply not have any questions and simply take a pass. But, just like police departments who value those officers who issue more tickets than the others, news executives probably pressure their people in this or that press corps "to get in their and ask something that makes our network look good..."

When I, as a professor or a presenter, ask the class or my audience "any questions?" same thing. I can see people in the audience rolling it over in their minds: how can I ask "a question" that might show everyone else in the room just how clever I really am...?

yeah the media is really trying to inflate this. I've seen headlines all day

'Obama's icy stare' or 'Obama clashes with journalist'

I dont disagree that he was a little short with the guy, but I'll wait till he finally erupts and drops an f-bomb or two before I get all excited.
