I'm nearing the end of my contract in korea and looking into future prospects. i've been trying to research philippines but coming up with mixed oppinions and suggestions. I'm 22 female, currently in my first teaching position and gagging for a better experience than what i've had in the land of korea...
can anyone tell me the chances i have at finding a decent job in the philippines and whether or not it's worth it? I'd also love to work by the coast and not get stuck in a cruddy city in the middle of nowhere again. Is anyone currently in the philippines now and can give me advice on where to look, salary, job conditions, and so on?? any help would be greatly appreciated, or suggestions on any place that might be suited to a fun loving, hard working english girl like myself (i've spent the best part of a year with 0 friends, a boss and coworkers that won't speak to me, the future is bright i'm hoping!)
many thanks in advance! |

Unless you qualify as a Philippine citizen, Balikbayan (returning ex citizen), church missionary or are married to a Philippine citizen there 0% chance of your getting a legal job here as an English teacher.
In addition to that the average (REAL) teacher here gets about $200 per month in salary with NO benefits.
Try China, Japan or Taiwan.
IF you have a few dollars saved up you can comfortably spend 6 months here, living VERY comfortably, for about $2000-3000.

Studio apartment with running water, flush toilets and maid service, just back from the beach runs about $200 per month plus electric. Traditional bamboo hut runs about $30 plus electric. 3 bedroom house in town can be had for about $200-300.
Restaurant meals run 50 cents to $2 each (double that if you are in a resort area). My barber charges 40 cents for a trim and shave. Eat at home for next to nothing. Bread is 50 cents a loaf, meat is $3-4 per kilo...
Go local and live very well on 300-500 per month.
Go tourist and spend double or triple that for exactly the same thing.
