I estimate, with the double serving of rice they give you, about 1,000. Could be closer to 1,200.
What do you guys think?
500 for the rice
400 for the meat
200 for the soup
100 for veggies
Sound about right? |

at my school we serve ourselves. If I get more than 500 most days, I would be in shock. |

A cup and a half of white rice is about 300 calories - I punch my lunch into my nutrition calculator every day and the average is about 600 calories at my school. Really depends on what they're serving, I guess. About once a week there's something fried or extra carb-y (spring roll, ddeok) but usually it's just small amount of meat, veggies, clear soup, and rice. |

If 50-75% of it goes into the slop bucket it really cuts down on the calories. |

I used to throw 100% of it into the slop bucket... the local pig farmers loved me! |

500 for the rice????? How much rice are you eating?
I wish I got 400 calories from meat here haha.
I think I MIGHT get 500 calories from lunch.
That 120k won protein powder from GNC is looking better every day. |

Maybe I am slightly over-estimating, but the rice and meat alone have to be at least 600 calories. The meat is usually always fatty and in some sort of sweet sauce if it's even identifiable at all.
Guess it's better to over-estimate though. Think it's about time I stop partaking anyway. |

You're talking as if 1000 calories is a lot for a main meal. There is also no way that the dinners here are 1000 calories. I eat a womens portion of rice (ie the blokes have double what i do), then usually more of the meat/main dish than the K teachers. Nobody I sit with is fat or even overweight. If you think you are gaining calories somewhere it definitely isn't at lunch time. |

I mostly just load up on any fibrous vegetables I can find. I'm not much for cooking vegetables myself, so it's the best way to get 'em. |

I think it's really hard to say....especially since I think there's a lot of hidden sugar in the side dishes...that said I think the nutrionist at your school actually figures all of that out so you could probably get you hands on the info if you tried. |

I dont work at a public school but I work at a Korean company and we also have a kind of self-serve cafeteria with rice, meat and two or so vegetable side-dishes. Every mealtime they put a display meal in a cabinet along with how many calories it has. The calorie count is usally 1400+!!! For one meal!
I try to only eat 2000 calories per day.... |

ekul...maybe no one is fat, but if you're sitting next to any women at lunch time I'm sure you will notice that they eat half or less of the food on the tray...it's all about portion control. |
