like the title says, my parents asked me if I needed anything from the US.
and to be honest I can't think of anything other than a few books, deoderant, pepcid ac, and some american crew hair wax...

Big bottles of Purell (or other gel hand sanitizer), I haven't been able to find it anywhere other than the black market in Itaewon. |

I was under the apparently naive impression that you aren't allowed to send foodstuffs across the border. Looking at these lists, I was very wrong. What restrictions are there? And what kind of money did you all spend shipping those delicious Easter basket-makers? |

Non perishables such as jars of peanut butter, canned goods, bags of rice, coffee, and beans can be carried or mailed across borders, but the weight racks up quickly. You can't bring fresh fruit, fresh meats, and live plants nor any liquids in carry on larger than 100ml, but I carried coffee, rice, navy beans, and corn meal in my carry on to sneak that extra weight on as packing for a one year airplane trip to the other side gets tricky with luggage allowances. You can bring fresh fruit and fresh meat by cutting it up, putting into food containers, freezing it, and packing it in your check on luggage as well as jerkey and summer sausage. People transport frozen cheeses and meats all the time like this even though laws say you're not suppose to transport animal parts. This applies more to things like antlers, bones, and ivory.
Next time I go home, I'm going to cut up and freeze catfish and deer meat to pack over. It could be mailed in dry ice if you have someone to do it for you. Dry ice is commonly used by specialty food distributors to mail lobsters and many other specialty meats.
As for asking mom to do it, no, she can't as she's not physically capable of doing much, but maybe someone else I know can send things. I want more pants, shirts, and Fruit of the loom. Food and other items are prohibitively expensive to mail from the US as they dropped international surface mail service. Air runs like $30 a pound or two. It's faster and cheaper to mail from Asia to America than it is from America to Asia I've learned. |

My parents have just been on a visit from the UK. Mum brought 3 chocolate Easter eggs.
Last year the ones she posted, were opened and resealed by customs. They took 50 days to arrive! When visiting, she had some space in her luggage and she took 3 eggs. |
