OK, how many of you had your pipes frozen? This morning after 4 AM the hot water was working. (Checked it myself.) This morning, the wife wakes me from my slumber and tells me that the pipes/tank froze. No hot water (but the cold water's working~go figure!
The next door neighbor from Kenya lost his hot water yesterday. His heater went kaput today. Guy accross the way from India just came to the door~ no hot water.
Our hot water kicked back in today at 5pm. We have the hot water taps dripping a little to keep the pipes from freezing (an old Canadian trick). How many others are having trouble with their heat and hot water?
All the best to you.

My toilet wouldn't flush one day last week because it was frozen... when it finally did flush, little chunks of ice were in it. I poured some bleach down it and flushed a few times... |

I've got a frozen pond happening on my balcony, thanks to my washing machine (no, I don't wash my own clothes - I just get whichever lady who spent the night at my place to do it).
Anyway, if anyone is up for some skating, you're not welcome. |

I had no Hot water during the day (just came back on), so I went to the jimjaebang near our house. It's open 24 hours and it's open every friggin day of the year. Bonghwasan Station Line 6 brown (very end NE Seoul) Exit #3 (I think) it's in the basement~ says Sauna. Was there for a couple hours. Came home ~ the hot water's back on and I boiled myself a yoo-ja cha with a wee dram of scotch. Really warms up the cockles.

An old Canadian trick? Okay. Guess that's why the kyungbi adjoshi has been on the intercom twice a day telling everybody to do that. Must have learned it from the Canadians .
Our hot water pipe was frozen yesterday morning. I put an electric heater in the tiny boiler room and had the pipe thawed in an hour (an old American trick ). |

Frozen pipes are a bummer. Experienced that my first winter here (the boiler was situated outside on an exposed balcony -- duh!) & there wasnt much for it but to move into a yeogwan for a week till the weather milded up. My boss paid the first couple nights, then suggested I could camp out at the school (no thanks!) so then I had to fend for myself. It was money well-spent though -- enduring a heatless & waterless pad to save a few bucks would have been insanity. |

Out on my balcony I have a hose running from a spigot to the washing machine (cold water only). Tried doing a load of laundry today only to find the hose was frozen solid. Somehow I had the bright idea that if I detached it an ran water over it, the hose would thaw. Now I basically have a skating rink out on my balcony. Not one of my better solutions I have to admit. Anyway, I finally brought the hose inside and bathed it in warm water in the bathtub. Got my laundry started finally, only to realize the washing machine drain is frozen up as well, so I had a load of soapy, sopping wet clothes and nothing I could do about it. Left it in disgust, and came back to check on it this evening. The drain finally unfroze and I finally was able to fnish my washing. Too much drama for something so simple. |

The pipes seem okay. However, there has been no hot water for two days. And, when I tested the water this morning, no hot water.
At least, the floor is warm. At least, the room is cool. Well, as long as the wind does not gust outside. With wind gusts, the room gets colder. The windows are not sealed or insulated very well. Even with the covering I placed around the windows, some cold air still gets through.

It's still above zero here but today it's supposed to be only +1 C so my pipe freezing days may be ahead of me. Sixth beautiful blue sky day in a row, and counting. |

Dude, your hot water pipe is frozen! Look at the boiler there should be two pipes with pinkish insulation around them. One feeds to your floor heat the other to your faucets. The one the feeds your faucets is likely frozen. |

Hot water is still not working. Been 2 days now. I had to cave and went to the local sauna. Beats me how cold water can work, yet HOT cannot...isn't it cold until it hits the boiler anyways? |
