"Sean is the first star to sign on for the film, which will just be a comedy in the Stooges' grand tradition, but Variety reports that MGM is in final negotiations with Jim Carrey to play Curly and Benicio Del Toro to play Moe."

The Farrelly brothers will direct, so it has the potential to be worth the price of admission. It's been faaaaaaar too long since we've had a new 3 Stooges movie. |

I'll admit it has been some time since a Stooge film (1970 if you count Kook's Tour as the last real Stooge film), but I can see any of these actors doing the Stooges justice. The whole slapstick genre died when they did. Honestly I can't see anyone being able to pull off what Larry, Curly, and Moe did with ease. I'm a bit bias I'll admit that much, I grew up watching them and really don't want that image tarnished by Hollywood (in general) or screenwriters (overall) inability to come up with anything new and exciting to revamp a slumping movie industry. |

I agree. Please don't bastardize their memory. After Moe, Larry and Curly (and yes, Shemp too) you can't capture what they had. Can't hollywood find some other show to rip-off? Whatever happened to creativity? Man, that blows. I hope it doesn't come to pass. Sean Penn? PUUUUUULLLLLLEEEEEAAASSSSEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm going to watch " Three Little Beers" right now for a REAL laugh!

Ancient? The man just knows quality when he sees it. Let's see, Beethoven is old and Brittany is current. I'll take Beethoven anyday. But in this age of "t#ts are talent" folks are more easily fooled. We're talking about Beethoven centuries later. Do you really think they'll be praising and performing Brittany's crap after hundreds of years? C'mon man. Too bad you're too young to remember when talent mattered more than image. People used to actually sing and play. But I guess I can drop $400 and go see Brittany lip-sync. Man, I gotta hurl now................

I will admit to seeing 'Have Rocket, Will Travel' as a first run movie from my usual 4th row aisle seat at the theater downtown. (Downtown is two blocks long) It's definitely a two thumbs up movie. |

Its been along time since we had a Three Stooges movie because the Three Stooges have been dead for a long time. If this was a biopic, I would say great. Those guys had very fascinating lives on and off screen. But sadly this is not what this movie is. It will be made as if they are actually the stooges. Blasphemy. I thought Sean Penn was better than that. Unoriginal sham. Why dont Penn and Carey create some new kind of comedy team, a new stickt, ala the Three Stooges, that people will love a century from now, ala the stooges. Im just glad certain male relatives in my family are not alive to see this crap. |

What's next: Chaplin or Marx Bros remakes? How long before Hollywood decides to remake Monty Python? Like someone else said: make something new. We need another futurist movement. |

If you mean the Stooges themselves they did 190 shorts and they appeared in roughly 27 full length movies. After the last real Stooge film Kook's Tour (1970) there were numerous Stooge related features:
Which Way to the Front? (1970)
Make Love, Not War (1970)
Doctor Death: Seeker of Souls (1973)
The Three Stooges Follies (1974)
Blazing Stewardesses (1975)
The MGM Three Stooges Festival (1983)
50 Years with the Funniest Guys in the World (1983)
The Curly Shuffle (1984)
Stoogemania (1986)
The Stoogephile Trivia Movie (1987)
The Lost Stooges (1990)
Disorder in the Court (1990)
Stooges: The Men Behind the Mayhem (1994)
The Three Stooges Greatest Hits (1997)
The Three Stooges Family Album (1998)
The Three Stooges (2000)
The Three Stooges 75 Anniversary Special (2003) |

Charlie Chaplin started with slapstick but (with his genius) transcended the genre, and Robert Downey Jr. did a great job portraying him in the film bio.

I don't think that any of the Stooges ever had J. Edgar Hoover keep extensive files on them for possibly un-American activities, but - like Chaplin - they also got placed on Hitler's hit list ...
According to a published report,[4] Moe, Larry, and director Jules White considered their best film to be You Nazty Spy!. This 18-minute short subject starring Moe as "Moe Hailstone", an Adolf Hitler-like character satirized the Nazis in a period when America was still neutral and isolationist about WWII. You Nazty Spy! was the first Hollywood film to spoof Hitler, released in January, 1940, nine months before Charlie Chaplin's The Great Dictator. Reportedly this film caused the Stooges to be placed on Hitler's so-called "death list" because of its anti-Nazi stance. Chaplin, along with Jack Benny, would also be on this list due to their later anti-Nazi films.

I think that some pro wrestlers have continued the tradition of extreme physical slapstick with snappy one-liners ...
