I'm wondering if it's possible to live in a love motel on a semi-long term basis--i.e., pay for a room by the month, lock in a fixed rate, and stay for a few months. Has anyone ever done this or heard of anyone doing this? If so, did you/they get a discount?

In fact I know it is I stayed in one for a month while my apartment was being worked on. They replaced all the pipes in the floors. School paid I don't know how much though.

Only hassles would be

(1) not being able to cook anything (no refrigerator)

(2) - No washing machine / laundry

(3) the dirty looks you would get coming and going

but apart from that - you would have a dark room with big TV, cable, internet, computer (well the love hotels in my neighbourhood have all that) and free utilities (gas/elec) and maybe they would also make up your room for you regularly - and no key deposit

All the love hotels I've been to had a refrigerator. Got to keep the beer cold.

And no one ever gave me dirty looks. Outside the bedroom, that is.

It is certainly doable. Just hit a few in the area you want and ask!

I think a jimjillbang makes alot more economic sense tho, BUT...maybe you value your privacy

I did it for 3 weeks. I got a discount, but I can't remember how much exactly... maybe discounted 5,000-10,000 per day, except on their busy days (weekends). It was really loud at night though... usually in a night club area, so until about 2-3am, the music was blaring. Also... there were a few drunks having serious arguments in the hall a few times, and the cops were called. It was a pain not being able to cook anything, (except ramen, because they had hot water in the hall), and I had to have my laundry done, but it was fine over all.

Back in the day....1994 or so...everyone I knew who was a teacher was living in a love motel. You just have to find the right one.

My 'landlord' did my laundry for a monthly fee....can't remember what it was but it wasn't too expensive. I was on a floor that was reserved for quieter tenants...though I did get the gaggles of students having parties.

Once or twice, girls did come to my door looking for clients...but nothing too serious. Worst thing was that the owners told my boss everything I did.

Eating out was a bit of a hassle but you did have a little fridge and I kept peanut butter and jam inside.

Still, it was a big deal when I moved into a villa half way through the year and I could cook again.

Ah the good old days. There is a lot of fun to be had in some of the "traditional" love motels.
