Anyone running these together? Do you have to go with a specific version of Photoshop, like CS3 or 4? Any issues?[/list] |

Thanks.
Just ordered a new computer for the wife. Nothing special, but added Vista 64-bit (purchased) to the order. The store in Yongsan actually tacked a day onto the order, because they don't keep real copies of Vista around. The other stores selling them on Saturday were closed.
New build:
AMD 5050e x2
Gigabyte 780G with on-board graphics
WD 500GB Green HD
4 gigs Samsung 800mhz Ram
Should run pretty quiet. She just surfs and does office tasks, so that's pretty much the goal. |

I've got pretty much the same setup, except the AMD. No issues here either. |

Oh my... now I've gone and done it... I've fixed her old computer and now she wishes we weren't getting a new one. New one is coming tomorrow.
Not much I can do with an old Pentium 4 3.0 Dell on a Mini-ATX platform. |

You should have just gone with a bootleg version of vista x64 (many good one out on torrents that are fully activated) because Windows 7 is nearly final. |

Hahah.... so true. The women here have such buyers remorse. At least once every 2 weeks, my wife is returning something she just bought. |

I've used Windows 7. Had a demo running for a while. It's nice, but not different enought to entice me. We'll upgrade later. BTW, we both hate the IE icon bar thingie.
We just want something that works for now. |

Well, the old computer died, and I cannibalized it. Anyone need some 4600 speed RAM? We've got a gig of it. What's it worth? 10 bucks?
The new Vista64 seems to be running very well. I got a 5.1 Vista Experience score with the AMD 5050e Energy-efficient CPU. That's pretty good for what it is. |

A 5.1 is pretty decent. Were you running Windows Aero? You should also check your GPU's performance using 3DMark. You can get it off torrents. I have a Vista experience rating of 5.9 and I'm running an old Pentium D 945 and a HD 3870. The OS is Vista Ultimate x64 and running Aero. I see that MBO you've got does HD onboard and has a HTM connection, that's pretty good. Overall I'd say a pretty solid system for your stated needs at a reasonable price. |

Vista Graphics scores are 3.5 and 3.6 with onboard graphics. That's good enough for Aero, and she tells me she doesn't use Photoshop anymore anyway.
The system seems to run pretty good. The only downer is that they added a really cheap box fan that grinds very slightly. Might change that out for something more silent. Have been able to do a thing on this system that increases fan noise on the CPU or the Power Supply. The air coming out of it isn't even warm. I had read the 5050e chip does well and stays almost fanless cool (almost). The 780G onboard graphics chip is really nice, too. I got this Gigabyte MA78GM-S2HP mainboard because of excellent reviews, HDMI, clean Blu-ray acceleration/playback (780G chipset) great audio, and tons of outputs. It was only 35,000 more, and I'm not sure how the Korean make they wanted to put in it was for stability. |
