Hi,
I'm a New Zealander teaching in Korea. I have a Korean girlfriend and we're starting to plan for our future:). She is 26 and has a degree in German literature. She has a passion for learning/teaching English and currently works in an English Hagwan. Her English speaking ability is very good as she lived the US for 18 months. However, she has no formal English teaching qualifications. At the moment she is considering studying again. We are looking at going to the Middle East after a few years and then probably back to NZ or Australia. I should have no problem finding jobs as I would have finished my MA in linguistics by then. We are wondering what she could do for work in other countries.
Can Koreans teach English in other countries e.g. Saudi Arabia, NZ, Aust? Would she require a degree from a native English speaking country to do so, or would a graduate TESOL degree from Korea be OK?
Another option we have been thinking about is nursing. However, that would take another 3 years study plus 2 years work experience before leaving Korea.
We'd love to hear from anyone else with a Korean partner that has tried living/working in other countries. From what I've heard the Middle East can get pretty lonely/boring for partners that aren't working.

Hiyas,
If she wants to teach you as couple could find work in China or Thailand.
Just remember she will get paid less becuase she is Asian.
Also, there are a lot of Korean international schools around Asia they ALWAYS need Korean/English speakers for a lot of different positions.
Some Universities in Asia teach Korean, she could also do that.
One thing she should do is get on the Korean language Expat boards and ask around.
There are a lot of options!
However, nothing really for her in the middle east.
Unless you are on a compond with alot of Korean nationals them mayebe.
But, I doubt it. the only real option for her is to see if she could get a job at the Korean Embassy in whatever Middle eastern country your in.
Anyway good luck !! |

You could try an International Internship. A longtime and personal friend runs this one:
PIJA Inc (Overseas internships) also, Euro Interns.
