Heidi
Dismal drips the tearful night
Upon rainy roofs of peaked houses
Like hands folded and weeping for dawn.
Beside me, a little warmth is glowing,
The ember of her eyes flickering
With the once polished amber life adorned.
Night's wrapping her in its eternal blanket
The sheen of her moon-soft fur clouded
From unseen light that awaits her beyond,
These doors we opened and closed day by day
By night's sweet caresse's "Goodnight"
My fair darling, my dying light.

A heartfelt poem, to be sure.
Was your pet recently put down?
My Mum had our poodle that we grew up with euthanized after Sis and I were away at college.
Sis was pizzed. I think our beloved was miserable, with rapidly failing health and the family structure she knew suddenly dismantled.
Definitely the humane thing to have done. |

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.
Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together.... |

Everytime a bell rings, a dog gets eaten in Korea, but an angel gets it's wings.

Right after Christmas, my mom wrote to me that Illysook was waiting for me at the Rainbow Bridge. I cried like a baby.
I am truly sorry for your loss. |

She died today, roughly 12p. I didn't put her to sleep. The title was kind of a catch phrase.
Her heart was racing, racing. . .stomach pumping, pumping. . .I'd known she had heart/liver problems long ago, would die sometime soon, cost me thousands to prolong. I'd adopted her as a stray, someone'd dumped her. She was very old, but lasted over a year and a half with me.
So I guess I'm glad I didn't commit euthanazia. A buddhist woman'd recommended not to and I think Heidi'd just realized it was her time, since she came to my side last night as I slept, was looking out the window, her face lifted upward.
Nonetheless, she's gone. You ever read the book 'Marley and Me?' How pet loss can teach us the brevity of life? Heidie was something to make me understand all of this, ploughing on day, after day, after sweltering summer, still trying but nonetheless, stricken with a terminal illness.
She had such a soft, sweet bark, loving eyes, willingess to live beyond her years.
This much I'll remember. facing such uncertainties myself. |
