Not that it's any surprise, but Jenny's Cellular over by the taco joint is a total ripoff. I went there mostly out of laziness after my phone broke, thinking, well it's in the neighborhood and they probably speak English so what the hell, get a second hand phone real quick and be done with it.
The phone's two batteries both wouldn't maintain charge so I went back two weeks later, lady said gotta come back Monday when the real "Jenny" is here and she will have a new battery for you. I did, and she didn't. She called a technician who said it's the phone, not the battery. Okay, so give me another one to replace the junk you sold me at least, right? Wrong. Pay 50,000 to get it fixed. And you should have come within a week, although she never said that in the beginning and that's BS anyway.
Sure, you go to used shops at own risk but all I was asking for was another crack at another junk phone. So there's 110,000 won and several headaches. If you're in that situation, don't be lazy like me. Go to an official dealer and muddle through the Korean language like you should.
One more thing: Should that happen to anyone, call the service provider, in my case SK Telecom, and complain and have the dealer's phone number ready. Even if it's not an official SK shop, they still don't want their customers getting hosed. I did this and they actually called Jenny to check it out. Of course I'm sure she pleaded that I might have dropped the phone or had sex with it or who knows what hypothetical, but at least it gets on SK's radar, and it's a headache returned in-kind to the sketchy dealer. After all, SK doesn't have to switch on phones for an unaffiliated dealer who calls with customers waiting.
And when SK did call, Jenny first pretended that she wasn't the owner, and then upon a second call from SK (they're not messing around, they called three times at least) she refused to give her real name, address and business name! |

That would be a definite sign of a place to avoid.... |

Get a friend of yours what looks intimidating to go in there in a sharp suit, and tell them they are with the "FBI" and are investigating cell phone fraud.
I'm sure the owner would crap their pants. Most Koreans know about the FBI from movies. What they don't know is things like jurisdiction, proper identification, etc... |
