Check out this one people.

http://englishspectrum.net/jobkorea/findpeople.html?include=form&mode=view&id=55633&lc=&sc=&mc=&pp=&gid=1&&&search_YN=Y

I mean really.. what does eye or hair color have to do with one's teaching abilities.. oh wait.. this is korea i forgot. So anyone out there who wants this job but you have black hair and dark eyes I would reccomend you dye or hair blonde and pick up some blue color contact lenses and your set.

Sure I know this is what the mommy's want but freggin hell. Um shakn my head at this one. lol

Yes,

Stuff like this is annoying.

Having a pretty face and my "blonde eyes and blue hair" was all that mattered.

Honestly, from my experience thus far I find stable and strict gyopos are the best teachers by far. They still maintain a strict English only classroom, yet at the same time, if they need to convey something in Korean, they can. They don't always have to reach for a idisciple to translate everything for them.

The problem with hagwons is that it's all about the looks. Unlike universities that have published rankings, hagwons aren't evaluated and there is no "true" way to know how good a hagwon is. Which is why many of them don't care about the foreigners actual ability, just that they are presentable to the parents. It's not like the parents even know what we are teaching in English...

Anyone know of a hagwon ranking system? I think that might be a good idea for Korea. It would be a good solution for all this wasted money that goes into education with no end product. It would also crack down on some of the shady hagwons that scam foreign teachers because presteige would be evaluated...

I smell money to be made here.

PS. I remember seeing an ad that did say blonde eyes and blue hair. lmao

Hagwons are ranked on retention rate.

I'm kind of like Groucho on these types of jobs. I would never want to work for a company that would hire someone like me. Very Happy

Honestly, even though I meet their description requirements, if I found a job like that, I would NEVER apply because just the fact that they discriminate this way, for whatever reason, tells me that I would never want to work for such an organization.

And for the life of them, Koreans cannot figure out why they can't get quality teachers.

Hey I qualify for this job!

I really want to start a monster.com post in the U.S. that says:

"looking for semi-professional kim-chi cook.'

'only qualifications are: blonde hair, blue eyes.'

'no Koreans. sorry.'

'also, you name can only be 'John, Chad, Mary or Clara'.

'also, no uggos, k? if you're a man, you better be swinging some pipe, if you're a chick you need a big rack.'

And count the seconds before the lawsuits role in.

Mmmm, my school's new net-nanny is blocking English Spectrum now. At least it's letting Youtube through, that is until the government fucks it up with a new registration system.

I don't know why all you guys get your panties tied up over stuff like this.

We all know that majority of Hagwons aren't selling English, they are selling the "idea of English" and for that image is everything. To apply for most jobs here, the single most important aspect of your CV is your photo.

It's like a casting call, management decides what image they want, and they hire a person to fit that image. We aren't up in arms over the fact that it's really tough for a fat ugly chick to make it in Hollywood...and we shouldn't be up in arms over this Wink

For those who didn't pick up, this post was tongue in cheek. For the record, I actually think its better to see "honest" ads like this, so we don't need to waste our time applying for jobs that have no intention of hiring us...or to find out later that you are working for an overly racist, bigotted *beep*.

oh, i'm not offended in the least. Not too many things in Korea offend me. I've lived through the Bush administration, I'm pretty hardened to offensive stuff.

It's just really, really amusing and often cute in its outrageousness.

There's a difference between being offended and laughing at the absurdity.
