"Kim Yu-na has rewritten the history of world figure staking. "

"Kims performance was not a simple sport but the best dance show and art that a human can possibly stage on ice."

"The starlets victory is not just indicative of her own fame, but is a testament to the potential of the Korean people."

This one is truly a gem:
"Korea has generated a string of world-class performers especially in sports rather than in other areas because in sports, the most skilled player wins."

Anyday now, the swastikas, patches, and posters should be readily available at your local E-mart. Laughing

Remember, these English language Korean newspapers are for the English speaking Korean community, not for the foreign community. They all have that kind of crap.

That one is a gem but the more funny aspect of that is the most skilled player part and figure skating is complete BS. Yesterday I tried to explain to a student about politics in fiqure skating. KimYuNa could be the best in the world and still she would not likely get the GOLD Medial in the next Olympics if the Judges have their own favorites.

You and your stupid little |lol| smiley seem to have forgotten to quote the most important part of the article - where it says EDITORIAL in all caps. Saying that this is the opinion of Korea and not the opinion of a Korean is disingenuous. Also, this is the second Kim Yu Na thread, you can post in the original one.

Do you watch The Factor and call it Bill O'Reilley's News Hour?

She is very good though - no doubt about it!

My favourite Korean sporting moment!

That has largely changed after the scandal at the 2002 olympics when Sale and Pelletier got robbed. There's a new scoring system and judges have alot more accountability.

Also, Kim Yeon ah is clearly better than any other skater and people know it. I think she will be the fan favourite heading to the olympics. She's just so cute and perfect.

It irks me though that she is being called Yu Na when her name is clearly Yeon Ah or Yeona or Yeo Na. (Not sure exactly how to write it in English).

this is the kind of stuff that makes foreigners living here cheer AGAINST the koreans whenever there is a sporting event on. why can't it just be 'she won, she is good' etc? why do they always put a nationalistic/superior genetics spin on it every single time?

they take the true credit away from her performance IMO[/quote]

Exactly. I hope the Japanese skater gets the Yakuza to Tonya Harding her knee caps before the next Olympics.

That is a stupid thing to say. Last I checked, she didn't write the article.

And the entire Korean nation didnt train in ice skating for years and get out on the ice and win the figure skating World Championship.

Next time some hagwon owner wins in court on a culture card or something, or better yet, when we apply it to the case of the Hebei spirit, this quote makes a lot more sense Evil or Very Mad Evil or Very Mad Evil or Very Mad
